Checkers tried to BS me re. their Single Malt sale this afternoon. Claimed the prices on the shelf, are the price AFTER the 20% was deducted.

I informed them that a sale as advertised, is not based on the customer's "good faith". There is no way I can be expected to believe them, when they say that this bottle of Whisky was 20% more expensive a few days ago. They still refused and I warned them that I will not let this slide.

Got my 20% discount off the shelf price.

Bought a Talisker 10 YO and a Lagavulin 16 YO at ,according to Checkers, at total of 36% discount. A good day.

Just cracked open a bottle of the Talisker 10 yo, good stuff:D

Need some advice:

I have R1000 in standard bank ucount points that I can use to buy a whisky from Makro and I'd like some recommendations.

my usual is Monkey shoulder, but I don't mind some Johnny Walker black from time to time either.

Any suggestions?

What kind of taste are you going for (peaty / non-peaty / sweet)? Or are you looking for something you've never had before?

I prefer the sweetness of the Monkey Shoulder over the smokiness of JW Black but I would like to broaden my horizons a bit.

If you like sweet whiskeys, try some Bushmills as well. Very lekker sipping whiskey.

Glenlivet Nadurra Peated R999
Buffalo Trace, R399 awesome bourbon
Nikka range of Japanese whisky
Highland park 12, slight hint of Orkney peat
Yellow spot R899, of you prefer a bit of idiot Irish

Well if we're blowing the budget that nadurra olrosso is also worth looking at. Kilchoman would also get my vote. Ooh and wolfburn.

Saw this the other day and wondered how it is. Must give it a try then.

It is very very good. It does have quite a bit of peat but its quite well balanced.
I still want to try that new 15yo (blend) Pinotage barrel finished one, that looks interesting.

Give the 15 year old a try and then try the 10 year old PX Cask last. Once you tasted the PX Cask none of the other Three Ships recent releases will measure up.

It appears they only produced 800 bottles of the PX Cask?
