I'd file it under "local novelty". I think the issue is the finish in brandy barrels overpowering the whisky. I've gotten used to it after having it a few times. Also seems to improve once you get about half way and it's had some breathing time in the bottle.

But yeah. Bring it out as a novelty item when you have friends around.

Will keep it as a novelty then. Might give it a go at a later stage again.

It was actually his wife (my mother in law) that wanted suggestions for the gift. After giving all of these suggestions with pictures and locations of best prices she decided to buy him the Dalwhinnie 15 year old, again...

SMH. But atleast now I know what I can buy for myself in future so not all is lost.

Oh well. I suppose it's tricky for someone to spend that amount of money on something they don't know so that's probably why the safer option won.

My theory is to never buy the same bottle of whisky twice. That way its always a surprise, some you win some you give to relatives and friends that you don't like when they visit.

Yep, absolutely nuts. Those aren't cheap whiskeys but they're taking the piss a bit.

I bought a bottle of Boplaas whisky over the weekend. Opened the bottle just now and let me just say this was this first time that I have thrown a glass of whisky down the drain holy hell that was bad.

Have no idea what Im going to do with the rest of the bottle, perhaps light the braai or clean the drains
