Glenfiddich is like JW. great marketing. but a JW Blue is meh compared to the JW Green at less than 1/3 the price.
i've found the whisky taste profile to be sweetish/spicy through to smoky. i like the smoky ones. but everyone has their our tastebuds and likes. enjoy the journey.
this may help:

The hell Glenfiddich is like JW :D

Glenfiddich isn't the best, but for the money, it's pretty damn good. It's a BRILLIANT starter whisky, if not the best, and that's why it shines. If you're a light whisky drinker or you want to introduce someone to single malts, there's really nothing better to use than Glenfiddich 12YO. Glenlivet comes close, but Glenfiddich does take the cake.

Excellent. I recently got some An Oa from NGF, then found it at Makro for R750 !!!
what a marriage of sweet and smoky hey!

My love with peat and smoke includes various expressions from Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Talisker, Bowmore, Laphroaig, HP, Springbank, JW Green & Island Green, Big Peat and Smokehead.

I've recently seen the Glenlivet Nadurra (Peated) available online from Makro.

Tasted this recently at Whisky Live. Amazing stuff.

I'm also a big smoke head and literally have ALL the ones you list above on my shelf...but love my Glenmorangie too. It is my contrast/"desert" Whisky.

You should add Rock Oyster to your collection as well.

Welcome by the way...

Do you guys think Makro will run some specials for WWD? I mean besides their current ones.

So what are the hauls looking like?

Me so far

Redbreast 12 R699 Checkers
Monkey Shoulder R289 Checkers
Private Barrel no.68 R279 checkers
Glendronach 12 R470 Takealot

Bit of a poor showing from Makro. I hope they do something for Saturday.

I'm going to Wade Bale's Whisky and Wine Affair tomorrow night...will be doing some shopping there probably. Try and get my hands on some of the rarer, off the beaten track stuff.

Went to checkers in sea point. Didn't have the private barrel James segwichs I was after. The big peat Christmas edition is listed as a single malt but "not loaded on their system with discount". So left with just the Loch lomond 12yo. Will try another branch tomorrow.

When I was at the till the guy next to me had a trolley filled to past the brim with mostly JW. Must have been a pretty huge bill.

I've got a Rain Check for the Mortlach & James Sedgwick, doesn't look like they'll be getting stock before the special ends.

Also, speak to the manager and leave your contact details so they contact u when they do have stock and u get it at the reduced rate.

Picked up a Glen Grant Major's Reserve and a Loch Lomond Single Grain today from Checkers and I'll be diving into my Private Barrel No. 68 this weekend as well.

The Checkers Private Barrel is really good. I bought another bottle this morning.

Ardbeg an oa
Glenmorangie original and
Bains
Looking forward to open the ardbeg.

Wade bales was a bit scaled down this year but still good.

Still 5000% better than Whisky Live...at a fraction of the price.

Good Irish showing this year which I enjoyed very much, especially the Green Spot.
It was also good to be able to taste the Whiskys from India as well as all the Douglas Laing blends, especially since I have had the Rock Oyster on my bar for quite a while already, but wanted to taste the others too.

All in all a great experience. Drank a LOT of Ardbeg and Bruichladdich...the people manning the stalls were excellent as always.
