Wikipedia, contrary to popular belief, is the worst source of information.

Maybe rather ask JD themselves:

Jack Daniel's is not a bourbon - it's a Tennessee Whiskey. As long as we can agree that it's not whisky nor even whiskey, I'll be happy :p

Ja, doesn't qualify to be Scotch nor does it qualify to be Bourbon.

I was rummaging through my whisky cupboard the other day an lo-and-behold, hiding in a corner, was a very old and sealed bottle of JD's. My first thought was WTF was I thinking!!! :sick:
 
Cannot remember if I posted here.
I "grew up" on J&B. Bought some red label walker and it tasted like urine.
Anything J&B related that I should try?
 
J&B is truly awful IMO, but to each his own. JW Black is slightly better than the Red, but not much.

Three Ships 5yr and Grants are in the same bracket, but more palatable. It depends on which aspects of the J&B appeal to you

Three Ships is a peated whisky, Grants is not. They're not in the same bracket in my books :P But yeah they're both really not bad.

I dunno mate. You’re a bit all over the place here. Each to his own and all that, but Black is streets away from Red which is is probably on a par with Grants if not a bit below. Three Ships 5 yo is a different kettle of fish and shouldn’t be in the conversation. Agree that J&B is awful but these brands all are mixers anyway.

Except Black. That’s really nice on it’s own and needs nothing added. It’s smooth and sweet on a similar level with Chivas I reckon. Which makes them nice everyday sippers imo.

Red is seriously nasty. Shouldn’t even be in the same sentence :p

Similar price bracket to J&B, not in the same tasting area. :)
 
I see there's some real whisky lovers here, so a question regarding the following:
Chivas 18 Year
Dimple 15 Year
Glenmorangie 10 Year
Monkey Shoulder (Odd one)

Your opinions ?
 
From that list, I'd go for the Glenmorangie, but that's just because I'm a sucker for a single malt. Also look for the Glenmorangie Lasanta in the same price class as a brilliant whisky. One of my favourites at this stage.
 
Lasanta is lovely and going for a good price aTM

From the list, Glenmorangie 10yr and Monkey Shoulder are good IMO.

I like the 10yr more than the Lasanta - lots of people love the Lasanta but I think my tastebuds just don't agree. Not that I don't drink it - it's just lasting longer than my 10yr :D
