Just got myself some Bulleit bourbon and it was fantastic. Only disappointed that I gave my in-laws a taste because they closed their Jameson and jumped onto my bottle......

More than a third of vintage Scotch whiskies tested at a specialist laboratory have been found to be fake, BBC Scotland has learned.

Twenty-one out of 55 bottles of rare Scotch were deemed to be outright fakes or whiskies not distilled in the year declared.

The tests were conducted at the East Kilbride-based Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC).

It used advanced radiocarbon dating techniques to reach its conclusions.

SUERC measured residual concentrations of a radioactive isotope of carbon present in the alcohol contained in each bottle in order to establish the ages of the whiskies.

The samples had been sent for analysis by whisky broker Rare Whisky 101 (RW101), which said it was responding to "growing concern surrounding the proliferation of fake whisky" in the secondary market.

The bottles had been selected at random from auctions, private collections and retailers.

Do you guys know anything about Nikka Pure Malt Red ?

I searched for it in November and found a single (expensive) example. Aside from that - nothing at all. I received an email back then from WhiskyBrother saying there was a shortage and they're not bringing in. Today I was luckyenough to get a bottle for my birthday but they person struggled for ages and was told they're battling to get an ingredient, hence the shortage.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything?

I can't find much online, but that's two people in a less than 2 months having said something similar.

?!? apparently they are, it is the Pure Malt White that is gone:

They all contain a mix of single malt from the two Nikka owned distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The White had the highest content of Yoichi of the three, and is no longer produced due to low stock of Yoichi. The Nikka Pure Malt Red has a high content of Miyagikyo.

There is obviously going to be stock around for a few months ... but Nikka themselves no longer produce. In other words when the stock is gone, it's gone.

By the way, Bottleshop indicated they had Red back in November and when ordering, I got a no stock pop up. Other places (ie Whiskeybrothers) aren't sure when their next batch of Black is coming, but they do have a few Red right now. Thereafter, they aren't sure either.

White - as you say - disappeared in 2015 ... but both Red and Black continued until now.

Very strange, the article I posted talks about the Pure Malt Red and Black being launched in the Norway market only in November last year, less than two months ago.

Must be substantial stock left if they're no longer producing and still launching it to new markets.

Indeed.

Though, the low remaining stock I'm referring to is in South Africa - not Norway. I'm unsure what they're doing in your article, but I don't think I can get much more direct than the distillery.

Certainly, I believe your info is authentic, just find it strange.

Coincidentally I've tasted both the White (bought a bottle at a duty free store in Andorra) and the Black (a good Samaritan brought a bottle to a whisky night) way back when. Had I known they're going to disappear I might have appreciated it more :D

I've asked the guys at your link (and posted the Nikka reply I got) .... and asked the guys at Nikka (posted your link) - let's see if either get back and what they say. I do agree with you - it is very odd!

Nikka White is something I'd looove to taste - and to own!
I want to have the Pure Malt collection - but I only realised too late what Nikka was ... and that White is near impossible to get

I'll let you know though :)

Nikka Pure Malt is available to buy in Norway right now. The Norwegian importer have got their hands on a small quantity of these products. How they managed this, I do not know. But there you are :-)

There will always be delays in cases like this, and in Norway especially so. If an importer wants to sell a product through the government owned monopoly stores it is a 3-6 month process just to submit the products.

the remaining stocks from our distributer might be still on sale.

We suppose the products on this website you mentioned are the ones from our distributor.
 
Received a bottle of Nikka black for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Thought I’ll open that baby sooner than later... Now I’m thinking of locking it up!

Yea like I said - Nikka don't produce anymore, but there is going to be stock around for a few months. In particular, Bottleshop has messed me around with stock - site says 'Available' and when it's loaded, it's a 'No Stock'. However, they may actually have a few bottles
