No sure, I know and understand. I’m only saying if the JW bottle is pandering to commercialism, then surely the good stuff in the other range is also.
When you speak of the GOT range then sure, it is pandering to commercialism but that does not take away from the facts that the whisky is actually really good. The pandering will surely increase the sales of these brands much more than a advertising strategy that did not use GOT.

I would love to see your source of this, not because I'm being difficult, but because I would like to check it out. Reason is I see a lot of smaller bottles, and I've also seen whiskies bottled at lower than 43% ABV before :D
I will look for some info on this, I know there are 500ml bottlings(this is the exception) in the market but they are 43% abv.

You won't find 700ml bottlings coming from the major retailers, most of the 700ml/40% abv offerings have been imported but the smaller retailers(whiskybrother/bottega/bottleshop) or brought in via duty-free shops

Edit, found this on Wild about Whisky website, still looking for the customs and excise rules:

Apparantly Lagavulin and coke is an awesome drink, I'll try it someday.

My take on how whisky should be drunk, you paid for it so drink it however the hell you want. If I pour you a dram then I'll make a suggestion but it's your to do with as you wish. Personally I prefer my whisky neat.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m not a fan of fizzy drinks much, but I’d imagine adding coke to any whisky would taste pretty similar across the board. I’d be thinking about saving money and going for a much cheaper one than the 16 year old Lagavulin though.

But I drink any and all whisky depending on circumstance. I prefer it with nothing added but then it slides from a drop pf water to an ice cube to a dash of water and so on. At the moment I’m stranded in the middle of Borneo and the only stuff I can find is Johnnie Red for R600 from a shop 3 hours drive away.

I drink it about 70/30 with water and tbf, it’s seriously not my first choice or even my 100th choice of whisky. But needs must so hi ho. I’ll soldier on until I’m home in a couple of weeks :p

Of course. That’s not my issue though or even what I was saying to MQ. They can call it the Spongebob Squarepants range if it sells more and good on them.

Point is, it can’t be pandering to commercialism for one and not for another because the other one is nicer.

It is or it isn’t, for both.

I got sidetracked and my comment was purely based on the quality of the contents of the GoT series.

It is still pandering of the highest order.

What makes the JW worse is the contents combined with the pandering....it is a double slap in the face.

Found this in Bottega's newsletter, good price for the cask strength.

Thanks @Luben , got the mailer as well just not to sure they've got the year right here, the tasting notes are correct for the 2019 release but they mention the one they have in stock is 56.2% ABV, 2019 release should be 54.8%.

If you've received your please let me know the ABV, if it is indeed the 2019 then I'd like to get one.

I've emailed them to confirm the year of release and the abv, I'll pm you when I get a reply.

Couldn't agree with you more. If you want to mix your 37 year old Port Ellen with Coke Zero then go ahead. It's yours, after all.

In the same boat but man some deals are too hard to resist

That Glenglassaugh sounds damn tasty, not available locally I take it?
You can the Glenglassaugh locally. I have a bottle and it's indeed lovely. Bought it in Dullstroom from you can probably guess who.

Glenglassaugh is available locally but very few offerings, I think only 2. This particular bottling, the octaves, is not available locally. I tasted it at Bottega and I was blown away.

I'm waiting for Checkers to have their World Whisky Day specials at the end of May and then I'll place an order with Master of Malt in June.
