Did that yesterday, no big price difference from what I've seen in the past few weeks.

I haven't noticed them inflating their prices for the WWD specials in the last 4 years.

I haven't seen any specials at WhiskyBrother in the past. Pick n pay usually does something as well but they're usually overpriced anyway so it's not really a good deal.

P&P had some great deals last year. They had 20% off if you bought two items on the Saturday. Most bottles were already on sale which meant a further 20% discount. Got some real bargains last year, hoping for the same.

Maybe I'll give them a go this year. Picked up quite a few bottles from P&P in July last year, 50% of the normal price.

Firstly, I seriously doubt that you managed to track their pricing in your head for the last four years, but be that as it may.

I wasn't referring to that, but rather what happened below.

I had an issue where I came to their store and the Single Malts in the cupboard, did NOT have the price tag showing previous price and also the new, discounted price, in red. Like the "cheaper" stuff on the shelf had.

I took a few bottles to the register and when they rang it up, 1 of the 4 bottles were discounted then and there on the system, but the other 3 were not.

When I asked what is going on, they claimed that those bottles were ALREADY discounted as per the attached price tag.

I refused to accept that and after about 45 minutes and having product managers on the phone etc. they had to discount it "again".

So what I meant was: make sure that you know what it DID cost, before the sale starts.

I keep a spreadsheet of my Whisky for insurance purposes so I track the purchased price as well. However, I do track the pricing of Whisky quite accurately without having to refer to my Excel sheet.

Fortunately I didn't experience your problem as I would have done the same as u.
 
Checkers seems to be starting their WWD specials tomorrow at 'up to 25% off' so who knows how that's actually going to play out lol!
 
Went to the Checkers Liquor this morning, no 20% of all single malts, no great specials.

Picked these up though, got the lasantha from NGF though.

The best deal is the Bells, blended malt with a bit of peat. Will post up the catalog shortly.

Yeah very disappointing... Think green label might be worth it though lol.

That's exactly what I thought. I might pick up a bottle of each.

Also 3 Ships 5 price is not too bad (considering it's approaching R200 at most places these days).
 
So I tried some interesting whiskies last week:

Compass Box Spice Tree Extravaganza - I've gone through a few bottles of normal Spice Tree but this one harks of the original release which the whisky police deemed against whisky law. It's a brilliant whisky.

Compass Box Phenomenology - I loved this one and it was my favourite CB of the night.

Compass Box Stranger & Stranger - very interesting, indeed. The one thing that go me was the 'funk' on the whisky which I believe to be coming from the 1% 1yo grain spirit. This one definitely improved with time in the glass but not the best CB I've ever had.

Murray McDavid bottling of a single cask Laphroaig 17yo matured in sherry hogshead. The darkest Laphroaig I've ever seen. Absolutely magnificent and the best of the night.

Another Murray McDavid bottling of a Fettercairn 19yo single cask, single malt. I've never heard of this distillery before so always nice trying something new. It was very fruity and floral, sweet, hints of spice. Very pleasant.

Another whisky I tried for the first time over the weekend was Black & White which was recommended to me by a friend. Not expecting much, I was most pleasantly surprised, especially at the price point.

At which stand did you find the Murray McDavid bottlings?
