I'm sure the rest of the peeps that have been doing this for longer can add their recommendations, in that range I'd suggest the Ardbeg 10, goes for around R700.

Laphroaig Select is also great for the price usually between R300 - R400.

I always find Laphroaig Select to have rather mixed reviews, mostly saying it's a whisky for introducing people to peated malts. Some recommend JW Green and JW double black but double black is often just said to be smoke and nothing else really.

I would recommend you try Laphroaig 10 / Talisker 10 in a restaurant/bar. I think you'll find Talisker is a little closer to what you like about Lagavulin.

Edit: I purchased a bottle of Talisker and find the island influence now that my palate has changed to overwhelm the peat influence, I still like it, it's much more of a maritime malt. If someone is browsing this, they may also find at boutiquey whisky places Finlaggan which is a bottling of an Islay malt that many think may be Lagavulin, it's not that available though.

JW Double Black is not heavily peated at all - there are smokey elements but nothing compared to the Laphroaig range (10yrs and up)

Gave an order to Bottleshop Monday, courier just delivered. That's impresive.

Seems like I'm torn between Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10yo.

Both seem like what I'm looking for thanks guys!

If the Laga is your thing, I'd recommend the Ardbeg out of those 2.

Saw a bottle of Lagavulin 16 at Checkers this morning for R 1 100.....that is a really good price.

I picked up some rum instead though.

I have about 10 to 15 various single malt whiskies I want to sell for bargain prices, does anyone know where I can do that.

List them here. If you got a few gems in there I’m sure it will sell fast.
