Wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Watts had something in addition to the 18 year (will be released as 21 yo) he showed at Wade Bales.

Judging from his Twitter activity over the last year I expect lots of good stuff to come. I was quite surprised that there wasn't a special release for World Whisky Day.

This world whisky day was surprisingly lackluster, no checkers private barrel release either.

Andy will be showcasing the now 19 year old at TOWS. I went to his masterclass last year and the year before and have tasted this particular whisky as a 17 and 18yo and I'll be going to this year's show so will taste again.

As far as special releases from JSD this year is concerned, there will be the very limited 18yo Bains released to travel retail next month and then the annual 3 Ships release will be in September (or thereabouts). I asked Andy about this year's release but he's not giving so much as a hint away.

This thread's been a bit quiet the last few days.

Anyway, I received my third bottle of Bain's 15 yo from the missus upon her return via duty free from a brief jaunt to the colonies. I decided that I may as well open this one since I have 2 in reserve.

I don't know who here has had this whisky but I was blown away at how good it is.

I look forward to the imminent release of the 18yo. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on a bottle. It will also be travel retail only (grrr!) and something like a release of around 1700 bottles IIRC.

I'm almost done with my first bottle. If one doesn't know better it could be mistaken for a bourbon I've had it a couple of times at different tastings and I've been impressed every time. Now that I can relax and home and enjoy it the enjoyment level had increased. The use of 2 bourbon barrels is very evident in the colour and intensity.

I'm also hopeful for someone to be traveling when the 18 is released.

Makro has Three Ships 10yo single malt with 2 glasses at R399!

Onedayonly has a 37yo Port Ellen for R43K as well as a 12yo Singleton for 399 and a Cardhu for 479.

So I attended a Glen Scotia tasting at WhiskyBrother Bar last night.

I do not know this distillery and was most pleasantly surprised. Really good Cambeltown whisky with the 15yo being my favourite of the evening. Edit - there were 6 whiskies to taste with the 6th being their already sold out 2019 special release which will not be coming to SA and which was not in the picture below.

After the tasting I had a Springbank 10, a Knob Creek Rye and a Kilkerran 12yo.

All in all, a phukking good evening of whisky drinking!

Loch lomond comes from the same stable.

I really like the double cask. Was R500 at checkers on WWD.

I managed to grab the last bottle of this.

Glen Scotia Rum Cask Finish - Campbeltown Malts Festival 2019
A very tasty limited edition Glen Scotia, released to celebrate the 2019 Campbeltown Malts Festival. This peated single malt was distilled in 2003, aged initially in refill American oak Bourbon hogsheads and finished in Guyanan rum casks. Finally, it was bottled at cask strength.

You are very lucky, indeed. this was the surprise 6th whisky we tasted which is not in the picture I posted. lovely stuff with the rum cask adding an interesting twist to the palate.
