I really enjoy that one yes. But try getting the Single Malt, which is about R300 more though.

Green Spot is excellent, but if you want more sweeter, sherry flavors, Bush Mills is also brilliant.

Teeling Small Batch and Green Spot have more crisper, green apple flavors. For me, of course...
Bushmills fits the budget, which one would you recommend, I see there is also black bush? Father in law loves bushmills so I'm leaning in that direction at the moment.

I can always use this an the entry into the realm of the Irish

Allo all! Seems That even though I love my smoky Islays (Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroig) I seem to like pretty much most of the whiskeys.

This week I added JW Island Green (really yummy) and Nikka from the barrel (also super enjoyed).

I am now toying with where to next. I don't have any Irish whisky at all but I do have buffalo trace and like that (next sentence explains why I mentioned that).

So I am torn. Do I go Rye next or Irish??? As I just dropped a little more than expected I don't really want to do more than R500-R600 at this stage any recommendations in this range and also Rye or Irish next? Thanks all as always!
If you are big into your Islays, you are probably a guy who likes whisky with a lot of character. Bourbon's/ryes are probably right up your alley then if you do enjoy the sweeter/florally type of whiskies as well.

If you decide to explore the Irish first, Redbreast 12, Teeling Single Malt, Yellow/Green Spot.

EDIT: If you really want characer, try Kavalan. Some of my new favourites, the ex-bourbon and the Podium are wonderful, full of personality, pack a punch (cask strength), dilute well and can be quite complex. No smokiness though.

So I recently bought a bottle of Vat 69 (after reading some good recommendations from this thread).
Cracked it last night and to be honest I thought it was vile.

On the nose, I got tequila. Reminded me of Olmeca Silver. I was instantly put off as I do not enjoy tequila (past life experiences).

Gave it a sip anyway. Found it a bit bland, quite sweet and then quite bitter.
Put it down straight away, came back 10 minutes later and decided to try it again this time without nosing. Turned out a lot better but then started to actually taste the tequila a few sips in.

I don't think I'll ever touch the bottle again. Anyone else get a similar tequila vibe?

No, only reason I bought it was because of the reviews ( and R120 price :p) and I did enjoy it. I drink most my whiskeys just with a splash of water this I drink with 2/3 ice cubes and its really decent.

No tequila taste though. Found it to be a little more complex that initially expected.

No, I drink it most of the time and I don't like tequila. It's cheap day to day whiskey which is not too bad. I do prefer drinking something much better when I can afford it :p
