Is there anybody here that is looking for something from MoM?

I am putting a shipment together and want to give someone the opportunity to save on shipping.

Let me know.

Review of Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19yo

Second great review I've read.
Difference in notes are always interesting:

EWB:
Nose:
More medicinal than other Ardbegs, with germoline, Tiger Balm and elastoplast. Very clean though; kiwi, pineapple, grilled lemon and lime pith. But dirty at the same time; coal bunker, tarry ropes, sooty and earthy herbs. Some seafood permeates, with BBQ’d langoustines, crab shells, rockpools, freshly shucked oysters, and some olive oil. Layered, to say the least.

Palate: Dry, earthy, no-holds-barred peat, then really very coastal, with brine, crab sticks, mussels in clean white wine, lemon on oysters and Arbroath Smokies. The mouthfeel, though, is fat and waxy, with medicinal oils, embrocations, and a mentholic note. There’s faint hessian, cigar embers and rolling bonfire smoke too.

Finish: Charred twigs and oak, a peat hearth, slightly medicinal and some drying peat.

Producer(Ardbeg):

Nose:
Gentle ripples of smoky pineapple, soured cream and wood smoke make for an irresistible nose. Newly planed oak and supple dark leather sing to your soul as sweet toffee and liquorice draw you in. A splash of water releases a surge of unexpected notes. Struck flint, herbal pine resin and coal tar effervesce towards citrusy lime sherbet and subtle, yet sweet vanilla cheesecake.

Palate: The peaty power of this alluring spirit is undeniable, as it plunges your palate into its smoky depths. An intensely salty mouthfeel drifts into sweet and sour notes of smoked chili chocolate and paprika. Waves of toasted oak and roasted tea leaves emerge, before subsiding to reveal fresh peppermint fondant and salted white chocolate.

Finish: Firm but gentle, soothing wood smoke carries into a length, lingering finish – resonating far beyond the glass.

Ja, EWB notes come directly from the blogger (so we assume) while Ardbeg notes possibly come from the distiller and is then nuanced by the marketing department.

Better to compare two independent tasting notes.

Last night got to taste the new Bains 18 expressions. My overall impression is that they are really minor variations on the 15. I was quite concerned about the sherry taking over the bains spirit considering they were matured for 3 years in their sherry casks. For me, the one that was a bit heavier on the sherry was the oloroso and was my least favourite of the lot , very nutty and sweet. The Fino really surprised me (we tasted blind and I thought it was the PX) I found this had a lot of spice and tropical fruit coming across, it was the one I expected to like the least. The PX came across to me as dried ripe fruits. I think all are fairly unique and quite hard to go terribly wrong with. All had significant interplay with the creamy vanilla nature of the Bains 15. Personally, as far as overall value goes I think the Bains 15 is the winner and I really enjoy it. I think it's really tough to even try to improve on the Bains 15...

@morkhans was very kind and gave quite a few people a taste of his Kilchoman STR. What a whisky just quintessential Islay in a bottle, didn't even need any water it was just perfect right from the get-go. I have a strong suspicion I'll be thinking about it often...

I said I wasn't going to pick up another peated whisky this year but...I recently acquired the Benriach Curiositas and it's nothing like I expected, very medicinal peat (but in a herbal tincture way?) but vastly different from Ardbeg/Laphroaig. It's so unique and it smells amazing but my palate is all over the place with it...It's weird to me but very interesting, I wouldn't recommend blind buying it to others though lol! I also picked up Buffalo Trace, it's a lot like Bulleit (expected as from what I remember the mash bills are very similar) but a bit harsher, Bulleit certainly seems to be a step up but it's quite good.

Is there anyone here who travels overseas often and looks at the whiskey in duty free on arrival back in SA. I am trying to find out when there are well priced whiskeys or sales. I often know people traveling but they dont know whiskey prices to compare if its a good deal or just normal price

Duty free is not really what it used to be. Its more a thing of buying something that is not available in SA etc

Yep...and of course getting a whole liter of the good stuff, instead of just 750ml...
I agree the Jameson duty free range is fantastic. But on the other hand I heard rumors of 1Lt monkey for for 300. That would be a great deal and I would certainly buy that if i knew about it.

Latest addition to my Port Charlotte family. Spent time in Marsala casks from Sicily and bottled at a respectable 56.3%. Travel retail exclusive but only 700ml.

Mmmh, the tasting notes that I read when zooming in look great. I'm too afraid to Google it in case I suffer from envy overload.
