I am on the last bit of mine.
Will probably not buy another. I don't like IPA and for me it comes on too strong.
Just opened my 2nd ever Buffalo Trace. Love it!

Did you catch a bourbon hint to it or is that just me?

It'll be interesting to get your opinion on it. I just can't get away from the bourbon taste in my mouth and mind. I haven't touched it since I wrote that post, maybe Ill have another dram this evening just to make sure :p

Always an excellent idea to be 100% sure:D

The tour is well worth it. It's about 2-2.5hrs. They take you through the whole process and show you the various parts of the distillery. The line up for the tasting at the end when I was there in August was: Bains, Three Ships Bourbon Cask Finish, Three Ships 5yo, Three Ships 10yo and Bains 15yo. They provide a variety of pairing options which you can mix and match with the whisky. They also opened the Three Ships 15yo along with the Three Ships 8yo as a special treat (we had a quite a large proportion of Cape Whisky Club members there that day, asking lots of questions). I have heard however it's not uncommon for something else to be opened if the crowd is interactive enough.

Which tasted the best?

From my experience, the side by side of the range just highlights what exceptional quality Bains, Three Ships 5 and Three Ships Bourbon Cask really are. It really depends on what your palate and preferences favour. My standouts from that day were definitely the Bains 15 and the Three Ships 15 Pinotage. But I absolutely love the current 10 (even sent my dad in England a bottle and he thought it must have cost a lot (he's pretty normal just drinks Teachers, Famous Grouse and Laphroaig 10 really). That said I love three ships 5 and three ships bourbon cask, they are easy go to whiskies and to be honest better than many things on the market.

Does anyone know if checkers still have whiskey Wednesday specials and if it can be found online if they do?

I also don't really taste any bourbon. Some hoppiness and oddly a bit of sweetness, before it turns a bit more bitter. I tried it neat. I think I'll add a few rocks to the next one to see what develops. All in all quite good so far.

Okay, definitely better on ice. Waaay more IPA character. More fruitiness, and it's lovely.

Ooooooh yes! Bottleshop made up for the second stuff-up of my order, and I got two nice glasses, a slab of Lindt and a little taster of Klippies to make up for it in a nice gift box. Nice of them!

Guess yours was the lucky pick for the month that got sent something. Others not so lucky

Yeah look I've bought from them twice now, both big orders. Both have been delayed much longer than it should have, but in the end I got my stuff. I now just order early enough to ensure my stuff gets here long before I need it. Simple.

I also have to add that my first order included a bunch of special order things, and that's not the issue, it was simply their communications that was a bit lacking. This time it was a lot better and to make up for it, they changed an item on my order that wasn't in stock to get me the whisky, and then "made up" the rest of the stuff (which wasn't important to me that much anyway), and sent me a slab of Lindt and a little taster of brandy (Klippies, but still nice) and two nice crystal whisky tasting glasses to say sorry. Really nice.
