So recently I picked up two 'cheapies' that are well worth a look in.

Langs Rich and Refined this is a highland blend bottled at an impressive 46% and claims 'high malt content'. It was a little sharp at first but two spoons of water settled it and actually once I was accustomed to it, I didn't need the water really, it reminds me very much of the blended malt Timorous Beastie by Douglas Laing so if you like some of the malts that go into that (Dalmore, Glen Garioch, Glengoyne), it might be a nice little pick up. Kind of a barley sugar/oak malt flavour. I picked it up because someone else had said it was decent. Really keen to try their other releases especially the Full and Smoky...At under R300 it's not a bad little pick up for something a bit different.

Glen Moray Peated, I finally picked this up and it's well worth it. Liquorcity tends to have this for around R299. Peated malts tend to do very well young and this does just that with a medium peat (I think it's probably around 25-35 ppm?). There's some sweetness too which helps. I wasn't expecting much but the peat is like Three Ships 10 with a small dash of BenRiach Curiositas. It's grassy with a slight herbal note. I think this may become a favourite for me. Maybe it's just a very good first impression? Either way quite impressed...I've heard their Chardonay cask is also pretty good and it seems their base spirit isn't bad either, I think Ralfy has a review on that. Certainly something I would use to introduce someone to peat as it's not the medicinal Islay peat that can be very difficult for some palates.

Okay, definitely better on ice. Waaay more IPA character. More fruitiness, and it's lovely.

I tasted the Jameson Caskmate IPA over the week end and found it very reminiscent of this beer. I was pleasantly surprised I like the stout Caskmate but do not get any stout taste.

Was at the local Checkers liquor store, prices seem to be on the cheap side on many bottles:

Monkey Shoulder: R299
Jamesons: R329
JW GoT: R299
Lagavulin: R1099

Darn this Auchentoshan is one of the most easy drinking Whisky's I've had. Getting me some more of this. . Had some Jameson IPA afterwards and pulled a funny face.

Haha, I remember someone gave ne a J&B after I'd been drinking a single malt (can't remember which one). Holy schit it was such a shock to the system. It's bad enough, but to drink straight after something nice is like drinking battery acid.

My wife is a big fan of that Auchentoshan, she also picked up a bottle two days ago.
