I got it in a charity auction.
But I think Norman Goodfellows supplied the auction.

Been reading from this thread for some time... Following advice and learning a few things here and there... Got myself a few bottles of whisky......
Any advice or thoughts appreciated

I'd highly suggest trying Three Ships 5 yo.

In the same price range as those better famous grouse bottlings, you can also try Glen Moray Peated which is usually found at Liquor City stores or Bell's Special Reserve (this is more similar to famous grouse's profile). If you want a step up you should probably give Highland Park 10 or 12 a go. Highland Park is part of the peated malt content in Famous Grouse. If you really want to try a smoke/peated whisky, Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10 are real heavy hitters, for something a bit softer (and providing you like Three Ships 5, Three Ships 10 is SUPERB and usually in the same price range as Highland Park 10).

I've veered these suggestions towards smoke/peat.

I enjoy the Naked Grouse as a daily easy drinker... For peat maybe also look at the Bowmore range

I think what you might have noticed on here is a varied taste palette and profile and generally people are not snobbish about their drams

Where did you find those old bottling the first 2 Grouse? I think the 12 has been discontinued ad the naming of The Black Grouse has changed.
I quite like the Naked Grouse, quite a bit of Sherry influence in there.

Speaking of 5yo... man down.

Personally I prefer the Bourbon Cask.

When you re-stock here's something to try. Get some Baker's Ginger Nut biscuits, preferably the mini version. Stick a couple in the Three Ships 5 year old, let it soak for about 10-20 seconds and then eat them. It's a nice winter warm-me-up

My wife does that with her red wine.

I picked up these fellas, haven't had the pleasure with any of them. Very much looking forward to getting acquainted.
