I also drink my single malt straight up...this was just a summer drink after we had an online tasting with Compass Box and this combo of ginger beer and single malt came up.

A lot like a Smokey Cokey...punted by Lagavulin at their distillery.

Try a Laga 16 and coke...it's amazing.

Well TIL!

Definitely going to try this, sounds interesting!

I am starting on my whiskey adventure now. Better late than never hey? My stepson introduced me to Jamesons Select Reserve, and Johnny black and double-black while I was staying with him for a few months, so I have now started my own explorations into this. It's a lot more complicated than I expected

This is my first order, arriving tomorrow. To be honest I based it on its complete unpronouncability mainly...

What could possibly go wrong?

Hopefully we get some in about 5-10 months. Our last allocation in South Africa was abysmal and the price of the regular 10 is absurd now I've seen it go anywhere from R900 - R1200. I guess we'll see but at this rate I'm pursuing indies more like Adelphi (also very rare from whiskybrother), Old Malt Cask/Old Particular and probably even SMWS occasionally.

Finally managed to find the discovery set of Glenmorangie at Boulevard Cellars!

So today with it being the first Saturday after prohibition I went on a liquor store journey of discovery.

First on the list was PicardiRebel Cape Town where all those Travel exclusives are housed. So after finding parking and avoiding being mugged I survived. Of course I arrived as they were getting a beer delivered. Most of the shop was stuffed with kegs and beer crates. The beer crates all packed in front of the glass Whisky display! So I don't know what was there, but I did see a dusty Laphroaig PX Cask.

Next off to the Bar Keeper. Very nice selection of Whisky. Had quite a few bottles of Smokehead High Voltage in stock. Some Machir Bay. Used to stock Loch Gorm! Good selection of Brandy as well.

Ultra Liquor. Those Glenmorangie specials are over. R100 more now :(

PicardiRebel Wllowbridge. Port Charlotte 10yo Heavely Peated got me excited until I saw the R1400 price tag. Also got Sanaig and a few Compass Boxes.

Makro. Their shelves are packed again. Plenty Ardbeg and Laphroaig. Almost no specials though.

One thing I must say. Prices vary dramatically. R100+ difference on the same items between stores. Was surprised at how many places stock the Classic Laddie. Most stores had very few customers.

Aquisitions. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Glen Moray Single Malt.

But do you think I have any fecken ice in this prison

fairly epic whisky day yesterday ... picked up a bottle of Wee Beastie and Green Spot at Makro, was very tempted to get a bunch more yet somehow resisted

then off to the Whisky Library in Durbanville, the rest of the day spent tasting many things for the first time ever (light on tasting notes, because well I was mixing a lot and getting somewhat tipsy):

Glenfiddich 18yr - very refined, a little boring though
Glenlivet 18yr - similar to Glendfiddich 18yr, if forced to choose between them I'd go with this
Glendronach 18yr Allardice - now we're talking, many interesting notes on the nose and palate
Highland Park 18yr - must rank among the best ever, very refined, with a little bit of every "part" of Scotch flavours
Longrow 18yr - after the Highland Park 18yr, less impressive on the palate, but the nose was great: sandalwood
Ardbeg Uigeadail - like the Ardbeg 10yr but everything just dialed up a notch, would love to have a bottle
Ardbeg Corryvreckan - surprising hint of caramelized sugar on the nose, tastes like a proper Ardbeg still
Ardbeg Blaaack - classic Ardbeg with some cherry notes, yes please!
Octomore 9.1 - much easier to whiff and sip than expected, kind of Ardbeg-like even

to end the evening, a post whisky library tasting of:
Arran 10yr
Jura 10yr
Three Ships 11yr Shiraz finish

and this morning I wake up not hungover at all, bonus!

I have been eyeing that one the past week. Reviews I read were really good, so what’s your opinion of it? Good price also at Makro so might as well just get it I guess
Saving it until I have 2 or 3 more Glenmoragie's then I'll crack them open :)
