Yes I have downloaded and read the T&Cs.
Yes I know you can terminate the agreement - but by that time they'll have their claws into you - all your contact details etc. They'll probably also hit you with a termination of your right to use your freeway.

Anyway, if you want to be a collaborator and go ahead supporting this treasonous system, then by all means you have the right to do so. We all have the right to call you a plonker for doing so though ;)
 
I'm also between a rock and a hard place. I have used alternate routes for now, but the time and petrol cost added is way more than the e-tolls :mad:
 
No don't have a etag and have no intention of ever getting one, I don't support corruption.

I use the highways daily btw.

The only way they will ever get me to pay is by a court-order but even then I will still put up a fight. People just need to stick together on this one, it is not that difficult to understand that if people refuse to pay we can win this.

That is awesome - if you have the cash and time on hand to take such a gamble - unfortunately a lot of people, such as myself, are not in such a position.

I don't have the disposable income on hand to hire a lawyer to defend myself should SANRAL decide to drag me to court...
 
I have one.

My reasoning to get one is that I stay in Sasolburg, so I am luckily not subject to the whole e-toll saga to the full extent. I travel on the toll roads maybe once a month, and getting an e-tag was just the most convenient way for me. Since toll collection began on the 3rd of December last year I have driven on these roads twice. Both were on a Saturday. My total for my first trip was R7.01 and the total for the second trip was R7.56. Both these amounts came of from the initial R50 that you get when activating your e-tag. I therefore still have a balance of R35.43, which will last me probably another 5 trips before I need to top-up my account. Just makes my life so much easier. The older you get, the less hassle you need in your life!

From that T&C's doc:

"When the Agreement ends, you will no longer be registered with us and you will be
categorised as an alternate user if you use the GFIP-toll roads. It is important to note
that, even after this Agreement ends, you might still qualify for the lower VLN tariff fo
the GFIP-toll roads if you pay for e-toll transactions within the grace period. "

There is nothing in there about a termination of your right to use your freeway...

I don't have the cash or the time on hand. I just understand the basic concept that if enough people do not buy etags the system will fail. I am definitely not just going to bend over and let Sanral have their way with me.

Also I am putting away some money every month in case something does happen and I need to pay but again even then I will put up a fight. There are other alternatives, yes they might be inconvenient but come on at least try avoid buying one for as long as possible.

At least give it till March when the DA goes to court if you are still as petrified of Sanral then by all means buy one and sign your life away.

Thats what more and more people are saying.

Thats not a good enough reason for me. Wait until the entire R59 is E-Tolled due to the success of Phase 1 of the project, now that will be a hassle worth crying about.

Indeed. There are already some (T) signs pointing to the R59 on the N3... and spaces for a (T) on other signs along the N3.

How much money is using the highways costing you on a daily basis - according to SANRAL anyway? As per the alternative toll fees in the government gazette - and not the amounts that are displayed next to the highway?

Another thought is that if the system does get scrapped - who says they are going to scrap the outstanding amounts?

As it stands now I'm looking at +-2k per month - so by march I will have accumulated 6thousand rand worth of toll fees...

I agree, getting one because it is "convenient" is a slap in the face to all South Africans who are trying to fight this abomination.

It is very easy for people that either don't live in JHB or don't use the highways a lot to fight...

The minute it becomes a lucrative business (because that is all it is, a business venture, not some highway improvement project nonsense), they will "upgrade" the roads by painting them, filling in the potholes and then the gantries will go up.

Well I received a SMS stating that I owe R1600 and I assume that was only for the month of December, so yes it is a lot of money but even on my not-so-great salary I try and put away as much as possible in case they do try come after me but I am certainly not just going to give up so quickly

Look all I am saying is that you should at least try fight this and not just be so quick to go out and buy one, there are a lot of people who use the highways that are refusing to pay, as it stands if the people who do not have etags remain that way I think we still stand a chance.
 
They are also upgrading the old Vereeniging road - including a new section that bypasses Walkerville. Do you really think that road won't get Gantries?
And - I have to ask House, I mean, Necropolis (My bad) - why the sudden interest in selling e-tags to the Forum?:whistle:

So because you are lazy and support corruption at the highest level in government your children and grand children will be forced to pay exorbitant amounts of money just to get around.

How people can live with themselves by supporting a corrupt system is quite perplexing.Would you also help criminals or Mafia extort money from your business/Job/Family?Because after all that's what e-tolls are, a way for Zuma and his gang to extort money from innocent law abiding citizens.

They are extorting at least R50 billion rand in the next ten years and billions more after that.Are you fine with that?
