Who here has an etag?

I was in JHB for two days in a rental car that had an etag. What was weird is that it didnt beep under all of the gantries, so Im not sure if some dont register or if its just that broken a system.
Either way I felt pretty dirty having one in the first place.

They are also upgrading the old Vereeniging road - including a new section that bypasses Walkerville. Do you really think that road won't get Gantries?
And - I have to ask House, I mean, Necropolis (My bad) - why the sudden interest in selling e-tags to the Forum?

No interest in selling - just interested in peoples opinions on the matter - and finding out from those people who are very vocal about their opposition to etolls how much they actually use the highways.

That and finding out what people's actual problem with the T&Cs are - aside from the usual - "they are illegal" rhetoric.

You call the NCC's pronouncement on their non-compliance "rhetoric"?

It is very easy for people that either don't live in JHB or don't use the highways a lot to fight...

I use the highways a lot,I wont be paying e-tolls I'm doing a similar thing to wezzy777 yes it may end up costing me a couple grand but it most likely will actually result in the collapse of the system in the long run if we all keep it up together be positive and dont give in to sanrals and the corrupt government ministers threats.

Don't be a pushover that supports corruption.

I use the highways everyday, but won't get a tag.

Don't have the money to waste on crap.

The system must die.

Oh, if you want another reason the T&Cs are so onerous... Say you have a prepaid eToll account and an eTag.
Someone clones your number plate.
Their transactions will come off YOUR prepaid account, and at VLN rates, not eTag rates.
Good luck dealing with Scamral customer unsupport, trying to get THAT mess sorted out. Sanral explicitly disclaims liability for this kind of thing, putting the onus on you to prove that it was not your vehicle. And that includes having to get affidavits etc...

So anyone with an e-tag received an accurate invoice and debit being capped? I know 3 people and the cap did not apply - all three were very clever and used convenient debit-order and credit-card payment and are now between 1k to 4k out of pocket.

As jy dom is moet jy voel.

I'm amazed that no one has called out the Necropolis yet - Necropolis is a type of ________ is it not.

Going to have a look at the Necropolis history quickly...

If I'm wrong, I'll apologise in this thread, but goodness me, my property radar is pinging...

I too can copy and paste links... ;)

[-] The InTheCube article also conveniently leaves out that fact that at any time you can terminate the agreement with SANRAL...

Have you downloaded and read the T&Cs or are you just going on what you have read on the internet?

Wow, you are happy to agree to the following: :wtf:

[deleted pending verfication]

I would not sign these.

You've just signed away all your rights - they can even change the T&C and you agree to the changes automatically :wtf: [/-]

Went and read the new T&C's on the site and the doc titled "How the Terms and Conditions have Changed" (dates are a bit weird - the 2nd doc has a 3 month earlier date stamp than the first one), and they do appear to have addressed the issues addressed by the InTheCube article, especially the cancellation clause.

Please point me to the specific pages in the T&Cs doc that line up with what you quoted in red - I cannot seem to find anything similar listed in the latest T&Cs pdf that I downloaded this morning.

I refuse to buy an E-Tag. I have used the roads in December and only recieved a statement from Sanral on Monday this week. I have billed R484 and they state that If I pay before 7th February 2014 it will be discounted to R185.

I will only pay this amount once I receive a registered letter from them

They don't need to send you a registered letter - an invoice via normal post is all they need to do.

No other invoices are required to be sent via registered mail as far as I am aware.

LOL looks like house is back. Don't know why anyone even bothers to respond to him. Obvious troll is obvious.

17. Registered motorists further consent to the onerous provision that it will be deemed that the fees charged by Sanral are correct and the onus is placed on the motorist to prove that such charges are incorrect. Sanral's cocking up left, right and centre
21. By registering, the motorist agrees and accepts that Sanral will be entitled and without notice to the motorist to suspend an E Toll account and to Red List an E Tag, for failure of any of Sanral terms & conditions. Should the motorist later prove that there was no transgression of Sanral terms & conditions, they will have no claim against Sanral as in terms of the agreement such claims are waived by the motorist in favor of Sanral. Why no recourse?
23. By registering, the motorist irrevocably authorizes Sanral or its duly authorized agents to obtain from any institutions where they may have an account or any credit bureau any information concerning themselves. Not mine, you don't
24. By registering the motorist further acknowledge and accepts that Sanral may unilaterally update and amend their terms & conditions and that the motorist has consented to such amendments and has agreed to abide by such amended terms & conditions. Excuse me?????????????? Sanral can change the Ts&Cs without my consent and say i've agreed to them??? i think not.

these just don't do it for me. haven't really read the rest.
