Why Absa dumped the Guptas

What merits? Your post makes no bloody sense.
I learnt you are unable to deal with merits, so there is no point to give you merits.

Very recetly I gave you merits in ABSA thread and your response was that I had no clue: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/862308-Why-Absa-dumped-the-Guptas

And now:
1. ABSA is for sale.
2. ABSA is being investigated by the authorities (amoung of other 17 banks) for fixing Rand. Repercussions can be severe including terminating ABSA rights to conduct banking business in South Africa.

1 is unrelated to the Gupta's being dropped and is due to the "new" CEO's decisions to refocus Barclays on its core markets as well as to save costs and limit risk exposure
2 is again unrelated, and ABSA are one of the "whistleblowers" and its not for "fixing the rand" its for collusion in the foreign exchange markets which INCLUDES the Rand.

I stand by my original statement that you are totally clueless.

+1

I would add that the fixing was most likely of cents at most otherwise it would have been discovered way before.

It didn't impact clients in any major way but allowed the colluding banks to make millions of profits by thousands of transactions a day on three cents, therefore increasing the traders' profits and bonuses, it probably has close to no impact on the bank's profit.

It was just manipulating the reuters spot fix rate by a small amount.

So how did they do it?

Theobald explains that traders probably used something called the “Reuters fix”, more formally known as the “WM/Reuters Benchmark Rates”. At 16:00 London time every day, the value of currency is marked. It’s necessary to have this because currency markets never close, unlike the regular stock exchange. It’s important because when contracts are drawn up, they will refer to the Reuters fix as the current value of foreign exchange. Theobald speculates that this instrument is what the traders were manipulating.

Still not with you.

“If you are a trader, and you know that your mining company client is selling a million dollars today, and another client is doing likewise, you can kind of keep those orders in your back pocket until just before 4pm, when the Reuters fix is set,” Theobald explains. “So you can save up all your dollars, and hit the market at once. That will cause a minor disruption in the dollar to rand market, which will move the price. If you tell other traders, they can co-ordinate with you. So you can put a slab of liquidity into the market and move the price together.” The Reuters platform was decommissioned in 2013, which is potentially why the dodgy activity stopped there.

I don't remember, probably never.

To get another situation where ToxicBunny is unable to deal with merits? .LOL.

I see the correct use of the quote function is beyond the basic abilities of some

Very naive. It is like terminating one drag dealing platform casue switching to another.

I hear that matter has been refered for prossecution, this thread will not die.

You do indeed have no clue, based on what you said in the bolded part. ABSA blew the whistle, ABSA is not being investigated and will pace no fine or penalty.

Still totally clueless about this issue and its complexities hey?

If it is true that ABSA blew the wistle indeed, then it is a damage recovery operation following the Gupta's scandal and the failed attempt to unseat Zuma.
