Why Africa needs GMO crops

We're seeing Roundup resistant weeds already, folks.

Edit: here
So we would need to find another way to kill them then? Like did you know there are antiobiotic resistant super bugs? Should we just throw up our hands and go well that's it guys they've beaten us. Time to wrap it all up?
The antiscience guys would want you to do just that so we can devolve back to the middle ages.

You're aware that you breathe nitrogen right? And no they don't go mad over fertilizing, if anything it's the organics who do as they've got to try pick up yield so you can feel or fluffy buying them at ridiculously marked up prices.
Now you're just straight up posting BS to try and defend your religion.

What? Actually the seeds don't self destruct, so not really sure where you go that. Also roundup is a pesticide designed to kill weeds, sometimes these weeds are the same makeup as the crops, therefore the crop is roundup resistant due to this reason. Kill the weed keep the crops safe. Also where are you getting it that the crops are covered in glyphosate? Even if it is, you wash your fruit and vegetables before consuming, do you think "organic" is pesticide free? If so you need your head examined.
Good remove their products, I would prefer we move on with science instead of regressing, I'd prefer the cheaper, hardier and more nutritious goods in store, which 99% of the time is the GMO or non-organic.
Just an FYI on the terminology

Roundup is a herbicide
Pesticides are for rodents and pests
Insecticides speak for itself

Yeah that's all well and good, but roundup is a pesticide as well as being a herbicide. Cause pesticides control pests, which are weeds, rats and insects.
Not all pesticides are herbicides but all herbicides are pesticides type thing. The grouping is called Pesticides, within that grouping you have insecticides and herbicides.

At the moment, people are using stronger doses of Roundup and/or older 'cides.

Yes, I work in the medical field, I am completely aware of superbugs and no we don't have a good response to them yet.

And no, we don't just throw it all away, we try to find answers to corporate mismanagement happening around the biotech industry.

Now you're just straight up posting BS to try and defend your religion.

Nope I'm not, we breathe 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, some argon and other things make up the remaining 2%. Also organic farmers do indeed use pesticides and fertilizers if they want any form of profit out of their crops. This isn't your own little home garden where you can plant complimentary plants to try combat various pests.
Organic is pricier then normal due to the costs involved, transport, fertilizers, low yields etc...
So what is wrong in my original statement?

Good as long as we don't give up, actually DDT got a bad wrap that wasn't really deserved, we could go back to that.

For gods' sakes, that's a complete mis-statement.
Many of us posting against the current state of biotech as incarnated by the likes of Monsanto are scientists and come from generations of scientists.

I realise a few of you here just want to have a good old shout at what you see as religious, anti-science quackery, but just slow down a bit, OK?

mankind has been doing GMO crops for thousands of years, every time a farmer sees one type of crop doing better than another cultivar he is 'Genetically Modifying' his crops. If it aids in addressing world hunger people would be foolish not to use it.

IMO they are crops designed to be seedless so farmers are forced to buy new seeds every season.
Oh boy... someone is wrong on the internet. Isnt it my lucky day.

What you are describing is terminator seeds and they are not in commercial use.
I would suggest learning more about the subject matter.

Don't get too excited.....you might find you're not as clued up as you thought.

GMO seeds self destruct, and are Roundup resistant with the crops showing high levels of glyphosate.
It’s a ridiculous mess, with almost all of South Africa’s main crops being GMO.

Then you get the good guys like Eureka Mills threatened to remove their Non-GMO labeling off their flour packs, or PicknPay won’t stock their products. Ridiculous!

GMO seeds self destruct - No they don't. Terminator seeds are not in commercial use.
Roundup resistance is a good thing, means the crops don't die from the poison.
And pray-tell what is your point regarding the crops "showing high levels of glyphosate?" A chemical which is not proven to cause cancer and the WHO study that found it to be a "probably carcinogen" only stating that there was a "positive trend" which is code for "We dont have definitive proof but we think there is a link".

And there ends the argument against GMOs. If you don't like GMOs and want to only have organic farming then please pick the 2-3 billion people you want dead because organic farming methods cannot produce the yields that GMO farming can produce.
Does organic mean no GMO, I thought organic just meant without pesticides, I'm looking for a source on that?

According to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements it defines organic farming as:
"an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, and growth hormones."

Complete BS the EU does just fine yield wise.

Edit:I tried to get some data to verify that I myself aren't talking complete BS, but geez try searching for yield comparisons it one propaganda article after the other all with vokol actual data.

Organic farming covered 12.6 million hectares of agricultural land in the EU-28 in 2017. This corresponds to 7 % of the total utilised agricultural area of the EU-28

You may want to rethink your argument... 7% does not an argument make Sir.
