Why can't the "whites" do it too.

While I agree with the example you mention the reality goes even further, a lot of whites, particularly English-speaking whites, never supported Apartheid, and yet they're still expected to suffer for the actions of people they never supported in the first place.

 ROFLMAO

What a load of hogwash:sick:

Care to explain what is hogwash?

Are you saying that all white people supported apartheid?

Of course, we know that nobody here ever supported apartheid, but for sure, a majority of white people must have supported it over a number of general elections.

In reverse order :

No, it's not. BEE is largely giving jobs to people who don't deserve the positions on the basis of their skin colour. The result is that the performance of those positions drops drastically and it encourages a don't-care attitude because you can get away with murder before you're fired. This leads to a nasty vicious circle because you then have people who think that they can get money for doing very little, and they even have experience to back it up.

And as explained above, it does nothing but fan the fires of racial tension.

You clearly do not understand what BEE is, what you have described here is BEE Fronting, used by some white companies, this is actually fraudulent and the Department of Labour is cracking down on these companies. Any black person who takes advantage of fronting for a company is in my opinion worst than a impimpi

xtermin8or, you have no clue what fronting is.

BEE fronting is when a company uses a black person to gain something like a tender while portraying that person as having a position of importance in the company when in fact they don't.
Example : Claiming your gardener is a vice-president or your business partner but not giving him the real position.
That is called fronting and is fraudulent.

However if you actually give the person the real position (and pay, benefits, etc) it's legal and is not called fronting even if they help procure tenders. That person isn't still a gardener at the end of the day but a part and parcel of the company no matter if they're used as a puppet or not.

The poster was not referring to fronting but to giving someone a position that they aren't qualified for or if they are qualified end up up being incompetent, under performers.

appointing an unskilled person to a position of power, without that person having any decision making powers is fronting and fraudulent, a qualified professional person appointed to a position should not be incompetent

But then most of our new civil servant appointments are all 'fronting' positions, because they've got no clue what they're doing (ok, they know how to steal the taxpayers' money, but I don't think we can list that under skills?).

/Me makes mental note to phone Dept of Labour and inform them of the 'fronting'.

There's a big difference between someone who has the power to make decisions and one who is capable (competent) of making decisions.
I'm pretty sure the original poster wasn't referring to fronting - they were referring to qualified people being appointed, given power, stock options, etc. and yet are not able to perform.

A piece of paper and past experience means nothing when it comes to competency.

Government does that every day to get the numbers right.
Whether the guy can do the job or not is irrelevant.

Last night was an eye opnener on Carte Blanche with the DNA Backlog.
The week before with The Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, entitled Red Cross 50, that the Government if they had their way would have closed down 12 years ago.

The DNA Crisis was highlighted as a direct result of skills shortages in that Department. People applying couldn't pass a simple test, but were nevertheless put into a position.
The Red Cross was saved from closure with the aid of private donors and one can truly say they are doing a sterling job, despite the Government wanting to shut them down. The only dedicated Children's Hospital on the African Continent south of Cairo.

Same old stuck record.
Instead of learning from the people that are in the know, they would rather show that person the door and place a person not qualified to do the job in that position simply because they are black.
Taking out key people in mission critical organisations like the Forensic Department and many Hospitals, has proved to be disastrous and counter productive.
Several Hospitals are literally dysfunctional, yet The Health Department appears not to give a hoot.
Just get the numbers right. :(

I love South Africa, but there are some really thick decisions been made by people in Office with little or no accountability.
Same old.

There are codes of good practice for BEE strategies, if these are followed then the policy would work, but they are not being followed - code can be found on the DTI's site

Paul_S, thanks for clearing the issue. A bit of different flavour if I may add. A real scene, no names for obvious reasons. We, as a group of techies (around 15) from India were employed by a SA Company not so long ago, and company's BEE candidates count went up by 15. Most of us are double graduates and have 10+ experience in the field and we were quite amused at being considered as previously disadvantaged.

:D

I'm sure there are codes of good practice for the SA Police Service as well, but they are also not being followed.

I don't even think it's worth the paper it was written on anymore, but it looks good...

Yep... the company's BEE credentials might look good on paper when Dept of Labour studies their BEE report, but the company is fooling the Govt...because you're not even South Africans.

Yes, this is correct. I would also like to add that it also becomes more and more difficult to do BEE Fronting as they are aware of the tricks and check you out properly...
