Why do we have Affirmative Action?

AA does not provide equal opportunities, it provides an advantage to non whites. What government doesnt realize is that it is causing a skills shortage because although jobs are available, companies wont hire more whites because then they wont be meeting their AA quotas. These whites then bugger off overseas where many of them stay for good.

Governments goal should be to create mass employment schemes for the poor so they can learn marketable skills instead of helping non whites who are already privelaged and do not need help from government.

Recently the provincial goverment fixed up a gravel road in our area.

A road construction firm was appointed on condition that a certain section of the road be built by hand in order to create jobs.

A noble idea.

The road constuction firm approached me to hire a bachoe (TLB) from me.

When i got to the construction yard, I found that the filling material was stacked to about twice the hight of the TLB.

The people that was building the road by hand could not manage to load their tractor trailers, because of the danger involved with filling material falling on top of them.

The job of my TLB was to level the gravel by pulling the gravel from the top to the bottom by using the backhoe.
This would enable the workers to load with shovels again.

I offered to use the TLB bucket to load the trailers.
This was refused by the foreman, as his company's contract with the Provincial government prohibited this.

As i was at the yard at the time,and offered to do this free of charge, i could not believe the sheer stupidity of this.

It reminded me of an article i read, about job creation in Germany after the Second World War.

Apparently they had teams digging holes next to the roads,then they had other teams closing it up again.

Yeh..I tend to agree and disagree with all you oke's, U see being a white male I must say I whould like to be offered the job if I happened to be the best aplicant for the job. Yet I understand that things are more complicated than that. But I do believe for our country to get to the top we need a fully competive job market. but yeh is kinda sad that this generation is the crutch for the victims of aparteid ..

In a country where there are too many people and not enough jobs, AA serves no purpose. It HAS to be best person for the position regardless of any external features.

I find nothing wrong with the moral aspect of AA.

How they implement it is what i have a problem with.

There should also be a cut off date.

if you so smart why arent you rich.Because it all comes down to the application.You can have the best polocies but its the aplication that counts.AA will never work.the maths does not add up.No polocies can overcome incompotence and laziness.My question is why does a majority need a polocies that helps them and claims that the minority are still not playing by the rules.Normally it the other way round
.Look who looks weak now.Shame only way they can survive is by handouts and cant survive by themselves.

Why dont blacks go out there and create their own corporates and them they can employ who they like.Fact is the whites drive thiseconomy .show me some facts to prove otherwise,its been 14 years stop blaming the past

AA is just legislated racial discrimination. The sooner we remove the discriminatory parts of our constitution and stop discriminatory legislation, the sooner we will be able to stop discriminating by race and be able to get on with things in SA.

We have AA to give black people a 100 meter head start. Kinda like you would with the "special kids" at school. People who benefit from AA can not compete with those most persecuted by AA.

The average African South African has an IQ of 66.

It does not leave much room to be creative, let alone manage a company effectively.

If they didn't have AA a lot of them would be unemployed.

One important aspect here is that working your way up through the ranks of various companies is where that vital element of experience comes in. Education means nothing without experience and is the reason graduates dont walk into senior management positions.

Fast-tracking into a position of seniority based on skin colour creates a fundamental management issue when decisions and strategy need to be decided upon and implemented. No education can teach you this and I have witnessed the failings of AA in this respect on numerous occassions.

In my day and age, a person created wealth, by hard work.
