Why do we have Affirmative Action?

It gives a sense of power stating that you have two incompetent white women working under you, doesn't it?

I wonder what their opinion of you are?

They are not here to defend themselves, are they?

That is why you can't assume the AA candidates are bringing Eskom down. They are also not here to defend themselves are they.
 
The government should really force more training programmes on companies instead of AA. That way ppl who fall under AA can all be educated and trained to do their job and grow from there. Education and training is the future for this country. You earn your place and ppl will respect you and you'll respect yourself for doing it the hard way.

Instead people are being shoved into a role they are not qualified to do.
If you want a job then you should be selected for it based on merit by having the correct skills that fit the role no matter what you look like or where you come from.

A person who is in a role and is not qualified to do it is a fraudster a.

Yeah, maybe we can't blame the AA candidates. But we could always blame the policy that forced Eskom to put a bunch of experience & qualified Eskom engineers into early retirement. What was that policy called again?:rolleyes:
 
The reason I write this posts is because I feel there is a need to clarify to some people why we have AA.

I have read a lot of posts from people saying AA should be scrapped as current generation was not responsible for Apartheid. I feel that some of these posts are deliberately ignorant as they are only concerned with blasting AA.

The reason I have equal opportunities in bold is because that is the thrust of AA : To afford designated groups opportunities that we all know daym well they were not going to get without AA. It is not purely about apartheid redress as most posters have indicated. That is why a statement like "current generation of whites was not responsible for Apartheid" or "reverse racism" is just downright ignorance (could have used stronger words here)

Why is Affirmative Action Necessary?

Affirmative action makes sure that qualified designated groups (black people, women and people with disabilities) have equal opportunities to get a job.

They must also be equally represented in all job categories and levels of the workplace.

If they are such qualified people, then why are they doing such a damn bad job at it?


Its not about equal opportunities, its about BLACK people getting the jobs regardless of their qualification or criminal record. Even tho there may be someone that can do the job better that's either indian, muslem, coloured or white, they will not get the job! That is a chunk of racism right there!.
 
While I agree with most of your post, I don't agree with the generalisation you are making that all AA candidates don't have skills to perform their jobs properly. I work with 2 incompetent white women under me but I can't complain to my white superiors becuase I'm more likely to get the chop for demanding perfomance than the white ladies are for underperfoming. If people say AA is reverse racism then that's what it takes to level the playing field. It seems this reverse racism is necessary to balance the equation.

I only notice people, whoever they are, that clearly can not do their job. Whether they sleep with the boss to keep their job, or don't qualify for their job. AA and the mismanagement of it is a contributing factor to my opinion.

It's clear some companies don't like AA and only do it to please the government. And why should they be scared by government when they can make a few AA positions and then hire a boat load of contractors to get the job done? Contractors AFAIK don't count towards the numbers.

It appears to me that we have these problems because companies are fighting against AA, they can get around it by hiring contractors or using labour brokers, and to me that makes AA a waste of time.

Is there any incentive for a company to spend money on training or implementing AA? It seems that it's cheaper to ignore AA and hire contractors who are on rates that double what their permanently employed counterparts are earning.

It's not so much he's opinion I'm interested but rather the stats he provides to suppoort his argument. He prooves that statistically whites are doing even better with AA then before. AA has not had the perceived drastic negative effect that many in this forum thumb-suck out of convinience.

Here is a stat for you :

Statistics shows that 38.3 road accident deaths occur each day in South Africa. This amounts to 14 000 deaths per year.

During Easter weekend in 2007 276 people were killed on our roads.

This is 69 people per day.

Why?

Are drivers drunk, reckless or are pedestrians drunk and reckless?

For the average road death to jump from 38.3 per day to 69 per day,something serious is wrong.

Statistics makes us believe that something serious is amiss.

While everybody is driving more safe.




How do i get to this ridiculous conclusion?


Easy, some factors were not brought into play by me.

Road deaths should be measured by using all the factors:
1. Total distance covered per day.
2. Number of cars on the raod
3. Number of road deaths.

You can get whatever results you want from statistics.
Ask any statistician.

Are the management structure of Escom not AA positions?

They sound very African to me.
 
The way some posters are talking I expected to find a 100% black Eskom Board of Directors. To my shock there were some whites too. I'm sure those whites are the only ones who bring anything positive to Eskom As most in this forum would have it

In that case it shouldn't be hard for you to use the same stats the HR Practitioner used to support you argument. In fact I will give you even more room by saying using any statistics that shows the adverse effects of AA on white males. I want to see a direct link between AA and white male unemployment. Please!

I'm just as angry at the incompetent whites as I am about the incompetent blacks. The point is, somewhere between our empowered government and our empowered Eskom someone screwed up.

Cheers fellas. I always get a kick out of knowing I make more logical arguments in English than most whites. Its called beating the odds not to mention outsmarting you in you own game. Cheers have to get back to the incompetent white women I manage gosh wish I could fire the whole useless bunch. Good Nite guys..........I mean racists.
