Affirmative action is not in itself a problem. And despite the whining and moaning from some people it is a valid option, but it does become a problem if you have rigid quotas and no means to create the skilled people to fill those quotas. Contrary to many claims people of colour and women did get and would likely still get excluded from work they are capable of doing if white males were not given some incentive to allow them in.
Affirmative action in South Africa does take reality into account and that can create problems. I've yet to see a situation were an incapable person was hired simply due to their colour or gender, but it can happen.

I recon the problem is there is just not enough $$ for all of us. We have ppl earning loads, but the on the other side we have almost nothing. Check if you do the calcs (I am a couple of beers down, so please excuse me if I messed up):

So, lets say Black professionals + whites = 52000000000 + 52000000000 = 104000000000
Now, lets say the avg income of the unskilled black workers are R5000 per month (it is probably WAY less). There are 40 mil left - that means they earn R200000000000. That means we ALL earn roundabout 304000000000 per month together.Div that by 48mil ppl, it means each one will earn about 6333.33 per month.
So, if we were to go the whole communist route and give everyone his "fair" share, we would all earn 6.5K p/m...

Thats what i also say...If AA is being implemented like it's suppose to, diff story, but its not.

Unfortunately most whites do not earn R 26000 per month.

The point here is that YOU can change things for yourself.
I used to be very angry that the stupid people *insert colours here* that are running our beautiful piece of land are running it into the ground with their stupid policies, short-sightedness and complete lack of interest in the PEOPLE of the country.
I'm not moving because I don't like black people. I don't care much for them, or anyone else for that matter. I have to worry about myself and my family, and that's enough for me to leave this year.
Let the continents do the segregation for you and move on with your life. I'm a white male, just shy of 30 and I DO NOT SEE a future for me here or the rest of my family. I'll take myself, my family and my business and relocate to a place that makes it POSSIBLE for me to flourish and make something of our short time here.
Africa is for black people, that's why whites are the minority. Europe is for white people, that is why blacks are the minority, and this is just a general statement which I can't back up with facts. I've been around most of Europe to know for myself. New Zealand and Australia are other examples of countries where blacks are the minority.
Africans (if you look at the WHOLE of Africa) are pretty bad at running anything but a marathon. European countries also have lots of problems, but in almost all cases, the country at least RUNS and the people making the decisions can COMPREHEND what they are saying and doing (again, in most cases). In Africa, it's not the case. If corruption and other things are exposed, things happen and changes take place.
In Africa, it's all about money and getting into the hands of the few intelligent blacks. All those years of apartheid (and rule by other non-black humans) need to be repaid in hard, cold cash and that's the fact. The intelligent blacks exploit their own people, what do you call that?
I suggest everyone not happy with things look at what's best for them and make a decision and take action. If it means moving elsewhere, where you think you could do better, then seriously look into it and make a choice. Many South Africans are complacent and just accept things that come their way. We get ripped off for almost ALL basic services (broadband included here, since it's a basic service these days) and all we do is complain. Stop complaining and make a move. If you value your time here, make the most of it.

I blame the ANC full and completely.
Freedom fighter(note wording) is one thing, but government minister is another. The old guard had 60 years of experience on running a country, and its NOT THAT SIMPLE!!
I welcome correction and interpretation in out discussion, but actually our woes started in 1948 when some dipsh|t decided blacks couldnt vote.
So the struggle ensued...50's,60's,70's, blacks wanted recognition, freedon and rights! The world knew what was going in in South Africa but had more pressing concerns. The cold war being one. The main reason(apply correction if needed) for apartheid ending in 1991(yes) was the collapse of USSR. The West no longer needed a lean mean and extremely competant anti-communist fighter in sub-saharan africa. And so now with a weakening Rand its time to speak to Madiba.
But something went wrong. In essence the country was handed over, peacefully. And in my view the task was thrown at the ANC who did not know how to do what needed to be done when 10 years earlier they just wanted freedom and rights. Like any government the world over, corruption and incompetance is present. However South Africa seems to suffer from cronic bouts of this ailment.
The ANC came into office and had more power beyond their dreams, the strength and ease of which they operated and the impunity of it all corrupted them.
The arms deal is the example not the cause.
The ANC hierarchy has the intellectual capacity to know what is right and wrong, but at the critical moment in time when it was the right moment in the right setting at the right place the wrong 'choice' was made. And we bought more war mungering things that we did not need. We could of used the billions of Rands for building homes and schools for underprivilidged areas or building teaching colleges or building simple water infrastructure for the Eastern Cape. But no. Human greed and gluttony took over and the pigs ate.
The ANC could have done more to enrich and prosper all South Africans so that in 2008 we would all have positive comment.
And so the stage was set and tone amplified. The central core was corrupt and no example was set, the rest soon followed. Travelgate, Zuma, Selebi. The pride and aura of Madiba was being eroded, and so with it a fragile identity.
And now the cart is rolling without brake or steer. White people, alienated and angry without rudder and direction seek greener pastures and scorning the establishment. Black caricature presses on, not understanding yet the magnitude of the task ahead of them, not understanding why white fellowship distastes them now. And so reacts defensively and proactively to criticism. The lower class unemployed and without any hope, high on dope killing and maiming the innocent. The government clearly is in disarray. In self-defense mode and acting on the offense. Believing after 14 years it has the countries best interest at heart, but it must first quickly and 'easily' quell the internal uprising.
If the ANC just made the right decisions we would not fight each other or distrust one another. Holding office and running a country is not easy. The ANC was not ready and did not understand this, unfortunately it takes experience and its hard to start Grade 1 when everyone else is in Matric. But the reality is just that. And the world will judge you irrespective.
AA on paper is good, but in reality its something else. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

AA does not provide equal opportunities, it provides an advantage to non whites. What government doesnt realize is that it is causing a skills shortage because although jobs are available, companies wont hire more whites because then they wont be meeting their AA quotas. These whites then bugger off overseas where many of them stay for good.
Governments goal should be to create mass employment schemes for the poor so they can learn marketable skills instead of helping non whites who are already privelaged and do not need help from government.

If i may add onto this...I did my Diploma in computers about 13 years ago and decided to give lessons to black people. I had my nice little hall, blackboard, the toot. As people came by to apply for courses i told them that i wont accept a passing
rate of less than 75% as this would bring down my standards. Guess how many rocked up....NONE. At the end i decided to open my own shop repairing, fixing, selling etc computers. Currently I'm running my own show ( doing all the above ) as i
don't want employees working for me. Reason? If you go over a certain amount of white guys, you HAVE to
employ a black. I'm really scared that my "quality" of workmanship will drop, so ive decided to do everything myself...
While we're on the subject, how many white's are you allowed to employ before reaching the "danger" zone?
