Why do you eat out?

Mainly due to my upbringing I don't eat out a lot, but I do notice that a lot of people do. I'm curious why.

Is it because:
You are too busy, so don't have enough time to cook?
Restaurant food tastes better?
More convenient?
Too lazy?
Just go-along with friends/family?

Generally the food is better.

Isn't food always better if someone else makes it? Even if it's the exact same thing?

That being said it depends on the requirement.

I'm not a fan of eating out just for the same of eating out, it needs to be worth it and therefore I go somewhere I know the food will be superior to what I have at home.

I don't go to the Spur for food for instance, but I will go to the Spur with friends who also have kids because they can be left to run rampant and we can have a good kuier, the food has almost nothing to do with it.

Special occasions every other year I don't feel like cooking then I'll take all my friends out instead. Years in between I'll have a party at our place where I do the cooking and all the cleaning afterwards.

So really it's about all your questions. Convenience, quality, socializing.

I've never eaten anything at a restaurant that I can make taste "exactly the same" at home.

I've made my own burgers, they never taste exactly like Spur's, neither do my steaks, and my pizza certainly doesn't taste the same as any restaurant's.

As a treat
So I don't have to wash up.
I like good and different food
I find routine cooking a bit mind-numbing to do every single day
To escape the cats for an hour or two

Too lazy, so much so that it's too much effort going out to eat, end up making own food instead.

It is because you spend an hour smelling and tasting food at home. By the time you eat it, it doesn't taste as good.

Yeah my point exactly.

Even someone basic like peanut butter and syrup piece of toast will taste completely different when you make it versus someone else making it.

I also enjoy eating out for ideas on how to cook differently myself. I almost never eat the same thing twice and almost always choose something different. I'll also rather try a new restaurant than go to the same one over and over again unless I know they really really impressed me the last time I was there.

Generally the really good ones I put on the list for taking other people to and then I experiment on myself with new places.

It's all about variety.

Exactly why I don't do it. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Because it tastes nice. Kinda obvious.

not always ....

i have many experiences where food tastes schit and the portions are small

at home ...i dont think i have ever had that experience

but i eat out cause like camikaze said ..its a change of scenery and also its social and well saves you the work of cooking

All of the above. it's an event, from the actual gonig out to the people you go out with to the food and drink to the atmosphere.

Also I'm lazy.

steaks and burgers are mostly down to the equipment used ...like you can never get nandos at home

yet you have the boiled chicken and the bottled sauce

but those flame grills are needed

KFC is a different story

but most burger places also use the different grillers

Take what you would pay at an "Eat Out" halve it. Go shopping with that amount of money to buy ingredients.

Involve the family to make one course each.

Eat and drink like a Lord and don't worry about driving home.

We regularly have meals like that at home that would cost a small fortune at restaurants.
