Take what you would pay at an "Eat Out" halve it. Go shopping with that amount of money to buy ingredients.
Involve the family to make one course each.
Eat and drink like a Lord and don't worry about driving home.
We regularly have meals like that at home that would cost a small fortune at restaurants.
steaks and burgers are mostly down to the equipment used ...like you can never get nandos at home
yet you have the boiled chicken and the bottled sauce
but those flame grills are needed
KFC is a different story
but most burger places also use the different grillers
Exactly. And KFC has that awesome puss-filled breast that you so rarely nail yourself at home.![]()
If you're trying to suggest that buying the ingredients costs as much as eating pizza at a restaurant then you must be eating some really cheap pizza.Have you ever made a pizza at home? It costs basically the same if you buy the same ingredients. The restaurants must clearly get some massive bulk discounts on the products.
Spur with friends who also have kids because they can be left to run rampant
Exactly why we stopped going to Spur.

Hm I made a set of 5 pizzas from scratch the other day. The most expensive ingredient was the mozzarella cheese. I think if I cost it out, the price of all 5 would have equaled 1 large Romans pizza. Making the crust from scratch was a revelation - so much lighter and fresher than I've had before.

R60 for 5 pizzas? Tell me where to buy the ingredients please. Normally that's just the price of the (guessing the weight here) 2x300g cheese blocks. Salami is about R50 for a small uncut roll, or whatever you call it.
I don't think he is quite going size for size with those 5 pizzas but I might be wrong.
It is a quality over cost argument though as it's much better tasting while also being cheaper.
However that's compared to Romans.
If I have to gauge home made against Col'Cacchio then there's would be as good as it gets.
Mainly due to my upbringing I don't eat out a lot, but I do notice that a lot of people do. I'm curious why.
Is it because:
You are too busy, so don't have enough time to cook?
Restaurant food tastes better?
More convenient?
Too lazy?
Just go-along with friends/family?

Give it a try, I was really impressedI make pizza myself as well but I don't go as far as to make my own dough but instead by the "vetkoek" variety at the local Spar which is like R10.
Hm maybe more like the cost of 2 Romans pizzas then, so roughly R100 in total I reckon. I used a R30 block of mozzarella 50% with cheddar, so cheese cost was probably R50. Then I used all ingredients I had at hand - caramelized a few onions, a small amount of feta, homemade pesto from garden basil, a couple of tomatoes, a tin of tomatoes, some yeast and flour, a chicken breast, and some other herbs and spices. I doubt it broke r100.
