Why do you use Internet speed tests?

Use it whenever my network is slow. Had horrible speeds with rain over the last two weeks. I contacted their customer care and of last week and they contacted me yesterday to say its resolved, and it was. Getting better speeds than ever now. So it helped that I was able to tell specify exactly how crappy the speeds were.

I use it when my wife says the internet is slow

Troubleshooting by:
1. Speedtest to auto server
2. Speedtest to fixed closest server
3. Speedtest to fixed international server

This is normally enough to judge where the issue is, local or international.

Tests might be supplemented with fast.com or MyBB speedtest to verify.

To enter stupid competitions I never win.... only use they have

I'll usually run one if I'm not getting close to my max line speed when downloading.
I use it to try and see if its the provider I'm downloading from or if there is something wrong with my line.
Same here- (except LTE) when throughput drops (happens rarely, but does happen), I usually do two things: reboot router followed by a speedtest.

Usually just to test why my Netflix/other streaming services buffer so much even though my fibre line speed is fairly fast!!!

i use a speedtest when my internet connection seems slow or laggy. i have a suspicion, however, that ISPs prioritise speedtest URLs :/

Please tell us why and/or when you use Internet speed tests.
To make sure that I am getting what I am paying for from my ISP and to check whether I have any connected online electronics using up all of the bandwidth provided for by my ISP at any given moment.

Things start slowing down, streams buffer or download muck about, use speedtest to make sure it isn't the source I'm busy with.
