Why do you use Internet speed tests?

I use them to see when I'm being throttled for exceeding the cap on my uncapped package.

Erm...

Speed tests are enormously useful as a basic indicator of connection issues.

- Takes ages to load or commence: problem
- Latency is higher than normal: problem
- Download/upload speeds are lower than normal: problem
- Test progress curve fluctuates wildly: problem
- International test servers are glacially slow: problem
- Single-threaded performance is terrible: problem

To see if Telkom is messing me around when I get a slow response. If the speedtest shows much lower figures than what I am paying for, I log a fault with Telkom and get a small refund on my next account.

I use speed tests as a troubleshooting tool.

To check the speed of my network whenever I travel from point A to B.

To test my connection throughput, my 2Mbps line is like a heart monitor up and down from day to next. I like to test latency, most of my gaming buddies is from Gauteng but I live in Toti. Testing my latency to is important to judge if I can try and play over the weekend. On a good day my Fortnite ping is 195ms bas it up to 220ms. If my ping to Jo'burg in 39ms my dsl line is running smooth, if it's at 59ms :mad::mad:.

I do it mostly at home when I expect a problem. It is a handy tool to keep my ISP honest.

To test my international latency and connection speed to a specific international region.

International upload speeds for live streaming are also particularly important to me, and I frequently find that my upload speed to regions such as the US are much lower than what is promised by the service provider.
