Why does everyone overtake on the left?

it is against the law to remain in the fast lane - you cannot constantly be overtaking people so your argument holds no water

It is against the law to speed.

It's like talking to a door knob. And to think that people like this roam free.

And that folks explains why some folks should never have been given a driver's licence!

@Mike. You are confusing door knobs which are fairly useful things with afrikaans boxes :D

It is against the law to speed.

it's quite funny how you don't think you're wrong to hog the fast lane. all fast drivers at least know that they're wrong when they speed.

anyways, do you have a problem with being passed on the left?

It is against the law to speed.

and so the child mutters in its obstinate manner

Ok let us adults educate you

No one said anything about speeding, we told you to sod off to the left lane as the law says you should. You answer with "you shouldn't be speeding" we answer with "we aren't speeding just driving faster than you and you shouldn't remain in the overtaking/fast lane" you repeat you shouldn't be speeding.

By remaining the fast/overtaking lane you ARE breaking the law. By driving 120KM/H on our speedo's we are not (as long as it falls within the allocated range by Gov) By not allowing faster traffic to move past you in the fast/overtaking lane you ARE breaking the law. You do not have the right to interfere with other commuters on the road. You are not an officer of the law and you sure as hell to not have the right to monopolize a lane simply because you feel it's your duty to stop people from driving faster than you - breaking the speed limit or not.

ok so in simple an concise wording so your obstinate mind can understand

- no right lane driving only overtaking
- no interfering with others that drive faster than you, regardless of their speed

These are the rules, obey them or leave the road. Your choice.

Lol!! Every day on the way home from work I will be overtaking people in the middle lane for about 10kms until I get to my turn off. Very easy to stay in the right lane and be overtaking for extended periods of time

PS - you feel better after hurling all those insults around?

Perhaps you should listen to your own advice - you are not an officer of the road are you? So who are you to tell others to leave the road?

Yes I do actually.

If it's rush hour and the one lane is faster than the other it's an unfortunate side effect of urban expansion. Can't be helped.

Fair enough. I will let the cops sort him out

Roaming free. In the right hand lane. At legal speeds.

and so the child mutters in its obstinate manner

Ok let us adults educate you
Only if your heart can handle it.

No one said anything about speeding
If I am driving at the max legal limit and you want to overtake me, you are speeding. You do not have to say it to do it.

, we told you to sod off to the left lane as the law says you should.
I am telling you to stay within the speed limit as the law says you should.

You answer with "you shouldn't be speeding"
You answer with "but nobody is saying anything about speeding"

we answer with "we aren't speeding just driving faster than you
And I answer with "I am driving at the max speed limit. If you are going faster, you are speeding"

and you shouldn't remain in the overtaking/fast lane" you repeat you shouldn't be speeding.
But you are speeding.

By remaining the fast/overtaking lane you ARE breaking the law.
By speeding you ARE breaking the law.

By driving 120KM/H on our speedo's we are not
You assume too much.

(as long as it falls within the allocated range by Gov)
The limit by law and the limit at which they start to prosecute are not the same thing. Going over the limit set by law (120km/h) is breaking the law, even if it is under the 131km/h at which they start to prosecute.

By not allowing faster traffic to move past you in the fast/overtaking lane you ARE breaking the law.
By speeding you ARE breaking the law

You do not have the right to interfere with other commuters on the road.
You have no right to speed.
And I am not interfering. I am driving. At the maximum legal speed.

You are not an officer of the law
Once again you assume too much :)
The government trained me and entrusted me to uphold the law. They even gave me a gun to help me should the need arise.

and you sure as hell to not have the right to monopolize a lane simply because you feel it's your duty to stop people from driving faster than you - breaking the speed limit or not.
Stop speeding and I will not be in your way. There is LONG stretches of road behind and in front of me where you can safely drive (within the speed limit) so I am not monopolising anything.

ok so in simple an concise wording so your obstinate mind can understand
What does concise and obstinate mean?

- no right lane driving only overtaking
No speeding.

- no interfering with others that drive faster than you, regardless of their speed
If you do not speed, I will not be in your way.

These are the rules, obey them or leave the road. Your choice.
My choice is to keep on doing what I do.

No speeding is the law. Obey it or leave the road. Your choice.

Yes, it is easy to do. But the people in the middel lane should also not be there, they should be in the left most lane.

They are busy passing those in the far left lane.

uFiS, "obstinate" would refer to your inability to recognise this:

Unless you happen to be driving a car with a calibrated speedometer, fitted with an otherworldly cruise-control mechanism (not your holier-than-thou right foot) that can maintain an exact speed of 120km/h at all times in all conditions, your counter-argument holds no water. You will be travelling at less than the speed limit at times, and you will be travelling at more than the speed limit at times. Which is fine. So long as you do so in the left-most lane you are safely and reasonably able to.

OT - I'm so glad I saw this thread, work would've been so boring otherwise :D

What an obstinate child, regardless of how wrong he is he will not yield for fear of losing his spot in the "pro" lane, effectively breaking the precious law he wishes to serve and protect with a moving barricade fueled with the knowledge that "even though I break the law,I do so to prevent others from breaking the law"

Vigilante

And your super car keeps to 120 km/h exactly, right?

Most of the time it is the lane with the best road surface.

Once again, if you do not speed, I will never be a problem for you.

But you are speeding.

It doesn't matter, my cousin was taken to the police station because he remained in the right most lane. Fortunately he was let of with a warning (Can the police actually do anything with regards to traffic violations?). Even if the guy is speeding behind you and you you don't go to the left if you can, you are both criminals. And I don't speed, never got a speeding ticket in my life, but I always drive on the left most lane. I have been in a few situations where I wanted to pass someone and they didn't go left and they were driving 110 on a 120 zone. I am pretty sure he thought he was driving 120 because his speedo said so, but that shouldn't mean he shouldn't mean over, clearly he wasn't doing 120.

If everyone just stay left and pass right our whole country's road rage will halve, atleast. It is against the law to hog the any lane except the leftmost lane. It is against the law to speed, it is against the law to not go to the left lane if there is someone faster than you and you can move over. Just like they don't have the right to speed, you don't have the right to stay in the right most lane unless you are in the process of overtaking someone, and by someone I don't mean the truck 100m in-front of you ;)
