The DRS system is a 3rd party system contracted by the sponsor, broadcaster and/or federation. CSA is a Hawkeye client, so it is safe to assume that due to last minute organisation of the MSL or the tight budget debut of the series, it was decided not to use it. It has nothing to do with sabc supposed inability to deliver it as it just a simple 3rd party plug-in system.

There is nothing wrong with sabc's broadcast abillities. After 2010, FIFA even uses their OBS trucks to broadcast Fifa qualifiers in the rest of Africa where they thought was poor broadcasters.

Starsat can even broadcast without any skill needed using 3rd party broadcasters like Globecast. They already did that in the past with Bafana games via sub-license from Siyaya. Everything can be outsourced.

That's why I'm curious to see if the SABC get better this year. Don't get me wrong, I would love for sports to be on free-to-air television (this is good for the growth of the sport), but there has to be an acceptable broadcast. Look at the PSL drama of the last few days also - it harms the sport to not have a reliable broadcaster.

At the moment it is just about the costs. The SABC is in recovery mode and must make sure that for them there is a value proposition.
Did you watch ( probably you did not) if you do not view SABC news or e-TV news, the interview with the acting COO of the SABC, where he tabled the bare facts.

The PSL simply wants too much money end of story. The SABC was prepared to cap the losses to an amount acceptable to the SABC Board, and the PSL would not agree.
It is cheaper and ironically more profitable for the SABC to broadcast the EPL than it is for them to broadcast the PSL.
Absolutely nothing to do with technical competence at all.

True. But nowhere in the world a public broadcaster's mandate includes paying premium rates for local sport. If the public broadcaster's mandate is the advancement of national local interest, than said broadcaster should have access to national sport, cheap or free.
But many don't realize, is that all big sport started solely with public broadcasters. And once they were big enough, private corporations stepped in and priced them out.

Their broadcast is fine, the PSL drama was for paying top dollar for a feed. The problem here is PSL itself, making the wolf called dstv the gatekeepers to the rights.

All/most local SA cricket is broadcast by Sabc, negotiated with Cricket SA. That's the difference. Their onscreen info is better than for example this year CWC.

My personal view is that denying access to the millions of Safricans, is the absolutely right thing to do. The more the public see and feel the pain inflicted on them by this useless government the sooner they might actually THINK about how they exercise their vote next time around.

Besides, let's be honest, at the moment the only soccer worth watching is Bayana Banyana. The men have long since forgotten what it is all about.

I see what people are now doing is subscribing to one for like 3 months and then to another. That's also not sustainable for these companies that invest in shows expecting a continual return. There is definitely still a place for a company like Multichoice.

Creative accounting. Their balance sheet still shows more money being spent as what they're earning and there's no end in sight to their original show lineup. They can't make a profit at current prices.

You have access to their balance sheets?

But it's not creative accounting, it's standard accepted accounting practices for businesses in the US. Netflix makes a profit whether you like that statement or not.

Don't need to see their balance sheet. The "profits" they post is nowhere near what's being invested. Plain and simple they aren't making any profit and are a loss leader till they up the prices to the traditional R600+. Their dubious practice is to class their shows as assets and amortise them annually so there's still a tremendous amount of debt and investment to recoup that's getting bigger each year. You're welcome to look this up as it's well known.

They're operational expenditures or goods. Seems you don't know how standard accounting is done.
