why i will never have kids

It's like that movie "Idiocracy"

The intelligent and clever people stop having children because times are tough or the economy isn't doing well and eventually the stupid people outbreed everyone....

Won't work out very well for SA if there is only eventually 1 million tax payers and 100 million to support.

Gotta laugh at some of the rationalising in this thread :P

Seriously, if you want to wait til you are that financially stable to have kids then you never will.

All the money in the world can't buy that 1st sight of them during birth, 1st gummy smile, 1st crawl, 1st step, 1st word...

1st hangover.

thank you all for the response :)

i am just so afraid that i will mess things up (should) me and my wife have the opportunity to have kids. You and your wive (or partner) is shaping a life and I take this to be the ultimate responsibility .

and if someone will do something to my kids (in a bad manner) i will go ^&*@.

yeah but I guess it's a special feeling holding that little one in your arms ( geez I feel teary eyed typing this - and i'm a bloke :o)

You wake up, feeling like death, head throbbing and you realise it's your turn to look after the sprightly, energetic young one...

I know the feeling. :p

Err I meant the child's. My father laughed his ass at mine when I was 15.

LMAO...i think when Karli goes to school...govt school it will be! My sisters kids are in Private school, and she took them out and put them in govt school...for reasons I'll tell when you interested.
I spent my school days in a pvt school, so I know what its about. I assure you it results in a tangible edge over gov school kids. Whether the edge justifies the cost is a matter of perspective.

My university expenses at undergrad were not 50k*7, more like (24+2+7)*4 and postgrad it's even cheaper.
Yeah, thats on the high end. My uni costs are ~25k, but my sisters are closer to 60k. Nonetheless, I think a kid should have the option to do a full Phd, so 50k*7 it is.

If you've got something better then I'm listening.

Perhaps. But consider what you are implying: You suggest having kids when not financially stable. Is that really a responsible starting point for long range planning?

Planning is great but as cerebus said though: All the plans might go AWOL if the SO lays down the law.

Or you may never get to see those things if you are unable to feed your child properly because you don't earn enough or give them time because you have to work 5 jobs just to cover the minimum costs or they're permanently damaged because you had to take them to some dingy public hospital for medical treatment. I am glad there are people who take these things into consideration and are actually thinking about their suitability as parents instead of breeding just because they have the biological urge.

Precisely, it's the reason why so many more people are struggling to fall pregnant -> they are waiting much longer. Teenage pregnancy is a problem, why? Because that's when humans - the animals that we are - are designed to bare children.
Are more people struggling to get pregnant when they want to? Or is it more a case that when people are trying it seems to take forever or be very difficult?

Granted, it's a personal choice, but for us - we traveled the world, partied hard and then had a child when we were ready.
Absolutely.

Agreed. My plan is to travel the world when my kids are out of the house, one tends to have more money in your later years than in your 20s.
There are some things you can only do in your youth and no amount of money can buy that back.

Moderation is the name of any game in life. Do those things in your youth, the more expensive, we're planning for the 'older' age (think 40, perhaps 50 here) Kids are not the end of your social life.

...i am just so afraid that i will mess things up...

And you will mess up from time to time - everyone does. Kids are tougher than you think though and the chances are everyone will get through (Although none of us emerge 100% unscathed.)

Raising kids is not an exact science and none of the manuals are right about everything.

decided that i will never have kids - this is easy saying this when I'm still single - and hopefully the day I meet and marry my future wife she will understand.

Raising kids is the ultimate responsibility - and I don't know if I am willing to bear this responsibility. I love kids - especially my niece and nephew.

I think the world is MUCH more complicated than 30 years ago when I was born - new circumstances than those of my childhood. Aside from the financial implications (not having the ability to support your kids financially must be a big fear among parents) , I don't think I am the right kind of person to be a dad.

And I would go crazy if something bad would happen to my kids - yes I am kind of an emotional dude :o

And I don't want to raise my kids in a pretty screwed up world ...

My decision might be - and could be - considered to be very selfish but hey you're most welcome to your own opinions.

I admire people who have the courage to undertake the ultimate responsibility and raise kids in this world and our times.

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." - 1 Corrinthians 13:11, The Holy Bible

I also reasoned like you when I was younger, and I saw what some or our friends went through with their babies. Most of them are young children now and we enjoy visiting them often, playing with the children and seeing how they grow up in this world which you hate so much. My wife is 19weeks pregnant now, with our first one, and I'm sure he's going to be a blessing to us every day of our lives.

How many people survived the 1st & 2nd world wars, anglo boer war, or any other wars which seemed like it would take out a whole civilization, and said they'll never have children? Yet you and I were born, we made it through school where kids with knives & guns killed each other (4 kids in my school died like this, many years ago) and we're still alive, doing well for ourselves (I do at least, don't know about you, but you have a PC & internet so you at least have more money than 80% of the countrie's poeple, according to stats).

Raising children in this world is no that difficult. Yet, it's a bit life changing since you need to care for someone else as well, but if you understand & have love in your life, then it will come as second nature to you to love and care for someone else too. We have been priviledges enough not to have been broken into or hijacked yet. I enjoy every day of my and my wife' life, and I'm sure we as a family will enjoy our lives together as well.

Kids...

The first few years is crying and being sick non stop.

Then they start to walk and explore, and you have to watch them all the time so they don't drown, or stick their finger into the plug, or drink poison.

Then come the teenage years, when they hate you, slam the door, and come home drunk, high or pregnant.

No thank you to that.

If you want some responsibility and something to look after, get a dog :P

Funny how most people think they will make great parents... right... cause you're a complete screw up now.

The world is way overpopulated, don't buy into the social idea that everyone HAS to have kids by a certain age, or even get married. Decide for yourself.

I personally am not interested in marriage or children. But hey, they say age changes you... so who knows, things might be different once i hit my 30's

Fsck having kids - I don't wanna go to jail.
I'll smash the fscker through the wall if it works on my tits.

Nice thing about other people's kids is that they go back to that people.
I'm a kid person when the mood suits me or if I can tolerate them for an hour.

My 3 nieces and nephew hardly see anything out of me - perhaps just a trivial and sometimes laughable "hello".

I find myself spending more time with friend's kids and they I only tolerate to an extent.

And yes - I've heard the whole kuk of "Oh you'll see when you have your own"
Most likely - I'll walk out on the buggers if I'm ever dumb enough to procreate their damn lives.

People person: Check
Kids person: Fsck no

Ahhh that felt good :)

The world you were born into was completely different to the one your parents were born into. Always going to be that way. The world you were born into was also screwed up. That never changes.

Then come the teenage years, when they hate you, slam the door, and come home drunk, high or pregnant.
High is fine, but if my son comes home pregnant I won't be happy.

Thank goodness that I never want to do that again...
If I was young I would do it again and I'm glad I did.

No way. Excess is the way in youth. Glad I did. Moderation is for old people like me. Children certainly are the end of some aspects of a social life and those exactly the things I spent my youth doing.
