I'm not following this. I regularly get advertising messages from that 'number' for Vodacom services. Are we saying that it is not Vodacom doing it or sponsoring it?Ah well - some clarity then....
Response from WASPA:
Dear ,
This message serves to confirm receipt by the WASPA secretariat of your complaint lodged regarding unsolicited sms's from Vodacom23.
After investigating this matter, we have established that the number you provided in your complaint is not assigned to any of WASPA's member organisations. Unfortunately, this means that your complaint falls outside of WASPA's jurisdiction.
I have, however, passed on a copy of your complaint to our colleagues at Vodacom. In addition, I encourage you to contact Vodacom's customer care centre directly. You can reach them at <[email protected]>.
If you have any questions regarding the Code of Conduct or the complaints procedure, please address your queries to <[email protected]>.
Warm regards,
WASPA Secretariat

I've had the same response in the past when I complained about the "please call me" advertising.
We're talking about SMS spam here. How do you stop that completely without spending money? You know there is an opt-out option for the advertising on 'please call me'? Or even the complete service?
Thanks for all your help vodacom3g - whatever they pay you, it's not enough
I'm glad I registered here to rant - i was getting nowhere with vodacare, despite pleas for escalation.
I got an embarrassed call from the MD's office apologising.
OK, some feedback on this.
As per usual when something gets this broken there were a couple of things that conspired to make it all go wrong:
1) Although ScrooVodakom got a contract number, the systems decided he is a brand new pre-paid customer and started sending him the SMS's new pre-paid subs normally get. Especially the SMS's that give free air-time is very popular with this group, but obviously should not have gone to a contract SIM.
We're busy checking where it went wrong and will obviously fix it.
2) When ScrooVodakom did call to have his number opted out, the call center agents did actually do it, but because of the number/contract type mismatch, did not go through. Repeatedly.
Again, it is being fixed.
3) In addition we will ensure that all messages carries the opt-out message and will be easy to opt-out. At no charge.
Concerned enough to stop doing it voluntarily, or concerned that they may have to?LOL on this. Next time I get hauled off to the Vodacom VAS Call Center for a monthly WASP meeting I think I will ask them how many "faults" they have against them...
But in VC defence they are the only network that are concerned about spamming and unauthorized billing.

I got a Vodacom23 SMS yesterday for some R1m competition and the opt-out details were listed at the bottom (I suspect as a result of this thread). I have sent my stop message and will see how it goes.
