Why I will vote DA

Ad hominem argumentum.
{Duly ignored}

Easy enough to call people names, but then like Julius Malema you go sulk when it comes back to you.

Sure you're not "Woodwork" Malema? (See what I did there?) Your ridicule is the lowest form of wit.

Well if we all do not vote for cope the ANC will walk this election, voting for these tiny obscure parties just divides the vote and if we want the anc out then COPE is the only vote.

Go ahead and vote for the DA but when the ANC get the majority you can partially blame yourself because cope should give them a run for their money and the ANC is hoping that all the whites vote for their white party as they usually do. Again if cope lose by a small margin, the people who voted for DA should never complain about another thing in this country.

My vote will be for cope not because i support them or like them or agree with any BS they say but because i hate the ANC and cope is only logical answer to removing them.

Uhm, how about no.

Changing your vote from one of "these tiny obscure parties" to COPE will help bugger all.

We need people to change their vote from the ANC to COPE or one of "these tiny obscure parties".

The ANC WILL lose their majority if people stop voting for them. The fact that they lost their majority to "tiny obscure parties" is besides the point.

Well yes you are correct but logically you have to say to yourself the anc will get plenty of votes, how can i help and ensure the ANC do not come to power and logically speaking the COPE is the only hope.

If you want to live in a dream world were all the blacks vote for someone other than cope or anc then thats fine go and cast your vote for an obscure party but you will have just wasted a vote and your time :) and when zuma starts to slowly destroy this country you will lie in bed along with a few million white's knowing if you had voted for COPE they would be in power. This is of course your choice but you will have to live it :)

I would rather lie awake one night while zuma destroys our country and think atleast i tried to stop this.

Am I arguing with Godzille or someone else?
Use a bit of logic my boy. I'm not sulking either, just asking you not to debate by coming back with personal remarks about me when you can't think of anything else.

It's very easy, just read it a bit slower. A DA administration will also be corrupt. In fact we see reports about them already. I don't support corruption and shady dealing, but our society is largely to blame.

If you're only willing to vote for a party with a spotless history, you're going to have a bit of trouble.

I don't much like the DA either, but rather them than the racially divisive demagogues of the Cult of the ANC.

However, I think the best reason to vote DA is that they're big enough to make a bit of a difference, but small enough to still be scared of voters.

I really hope they win the Western Cape, so that they get a chance to actually govern instead of bitching the whole time...

I see and understand where you are coming from, but in my opinion COPE is just the sour ex-ANC members that got booted off the gravy train.

Yes, I want COPE to get enough votes to break the ANC majority rule, but no, I will never vote for them.

Another thing, can you really call the DA a tiny, obscure party? They keep challenging the ANC, keeping them on their toes as much as possible.

Would it not be better to have the ANC and COPE take about 70% of the votes while there is a 30% coalition of tiny parties that keep the "big two" on their toes?

COPE is not that big, in fact I think they have less support than the DA.

What we need is a strong opposition. It does not matter if you vote DA or COPE, they will properly form a coalition after the election.

I don't see how you could sleep peacefully at night if COPE did for instance get into power? They are no different to the ANC. It's mutton dressed as lamb at the end of the day. So no i wont logically vote for COPE knowing full well i'm getting ANC instead. There is no difference between the two.

I was demonstrating your use of ridicule - thanks for pointing out how juvenile it would be had I actually intended it. Of course you do seem to intend it and I such I can only reach the conclusion you are making, which is that you can only make personal remarks about Helen Zille and can't think of anything else to say.

I refer to a previous post of mine:

Its beyond me that people can't understand that a party with a large majority is a bad thing for democracy. No party should be unaccountable, with a strong opposition the ANC has no choice but to clean up their behaviour, rather than auditing itself.

Furthermore, any liberal party will have the interests of the poor at heart. Unfortunately the ANC is abusing their position to buy votes, this is unacceptable. The have also renegaded on their promises to the poor of the country, this is also unacceptable.

You don't have to vote for the ANC but rather vote for another party to keep the majority party in line, rather than allow it to run riot. It may not force the ANC out of power, but it will put them in a position to do the will of the people, if they wish to remain dominant. You should be able to vote out a party that is not doing a good job in favour of one that will, this is barely an option in this country, and that is not good for democracy.

It is not necessarily about voting for COPE, the DA or even the Minority Front; its about not voting for the ANC to keep democratic processes and accountability in check.

i hear what you saying timgaul but would it really force the ANC to start acting like we want them to act? i don't know so much.

With a below 50% majority they will be in for a race - at that point the opposition may be able to elect a non-ANC president. Could you imagine, not all their laws will be forced through parliament. MP voting (and therefore attendance) will become much more important. I think the ANC will suddenly realise running a country is not as easy as it once seemed - you actually have to stick to your promises!

Even with below 66% they will be unable to snatch too much power.

Cope = ANC.
I'll vote DA as it is quite evident what the ANC(Cope) has done to SA the last 15 years.

For the love of... I wish people would stop being so ignorant. We have a proportional based election system in South Africa. Any vote not cast for the ANC weakens its majority... You can cast your vote for the World of Warcraft Addicts party for all I care and it still will make a difference!

People should vote with their head - not based on lies or the misunderstanding of how our election works. Also, a stay at home or no vote benefits the ANC more as they will get a greater proportion of votes from those who do vote.... So if they get 7,000,000 out of 10,000,000 votes cast they will get 70%...but if people get off their lazy butts and head to the polling booth and 13,000,000 vote with 7,000,000 still voting for the ANC they will only get 54% of the vote.

Sorry if I ruined your image of the lady. Some are that way inclined :p
But don't forger your indignity about Zille should apply to other politicans.

So you're sexist now? Or you just like black men with shiny domes?

true true, i agree...

It is a sad reality. If only people in this country would look beyond the colour of one's skin and look at their character and principles... If the USA had the same idealogy we would be without President Obama. Thank goodness that they judged him according to his character and what he stands for. If only the same would happen in SA...

Well said!
