Why i wouldn't vote DA

I wasn't speaking to you.

Anyway, two words sum up the ANC. Jacob Zuma. They will get anything going their way.

I am not voting, because i've stated before there can never be a true country at peace, when the ANC is in the mix.

Sorry man, that was most definitely posted in the wrong place. My bad :)

I have studied all the party's briefs, either via News24 or their own website. They all have grand ideas, but you have to see who will actually be able and willing to act on them, I think.

Personally, I don't mind doing some research to find out what each party stands for, and have the ability to do so. But, yes, they should all realize that the majority of the population does not have access to the internet, and most media outlets. The campaigning should be more visible for all parties.

I will be voting, and it won't be ANC.

When the DA and its coalition take over our prooooooooovince, I'll be very happy.

Town by town, city by city province by province.

If the DA and its coalition by some chance wins the western cape, i'm gonna relocate to cpt. :)

I personally do not like the DA either, because they just complain, complain, complain. Helen Ziller thinks she and her crew are SA's Justice League saving us from the criminal "mastermind" Zuma,

Its called being an opposition, in this case, the official opposition.

some chance?

I think the DA are on track for just over 42% of the vote compared to the ANC's 28% or so.

If the DA gets 40% and upwards they could pick and choose between COPE, ID and and the other smaller parties to form the coalition.

And all the DA have to do in the next 5 years is to try and make the western cape a world class province, reduce shacks substantially, reduce crime, increase employment opportunities, and then everyone will see that the DA is doing its job come 2014.

That's the plan, but first they need to win the province. *Finger crossed*

Just because they an opposition party, does mean people have to like what they do.

Some will, some won't. I dont care if people vote DA, because at least they making their vote count for something.

I am just not a DA fan, Personal taste thats all

I don't think reducing shacks is a measure of success.
They need to deliver housing and deliver more houses than the ANC but at the same time the housing issue requires a creative solutions. People who live in these areas require electricity, water and other services.

The DA needs to get the basics right. A visible improvement at health facilties, reduce crime, particularly in the 3 or 4 townships that account for the majority of crime in Cape Town. Education will also be very important.

My only point was that its the job/function of the opposition to criticize, complain and hold the ruling party accountable.
When the DA runs the Western Cape its the ANC's job to criticize, complain and hold them accountable.

I think the DA's latest "Stop Zuma"campaign is only aimed at the so called swing voters - those who have not yet decided who to vote for.

Face it, ANC supporters are not gonna change their minds no matter what the DA does or doesn't advertise. That is not their campaign's target at this late stage. Perhaps for those who are still undecided, stopping zuma may be the deciding factor? If it is then the last 2 weeks of their campaign will have been successful?

What's all this about the DA having to deliver more houses than the ANC to prove they are better? What about providing an environment where everyone can provide their own houses through their own achievements? Surely that is more satisfying. From reading the DA's economic policies that is what they have set out to do and they would be better able to achieve that if they could govern the country. Thus far all they've managed to achieve is having one of the best mayors in the world lead their party, reduce crime in the Western Cape, actually work together with other parties, provide services, maintain the roads the Cape already has and be the most representative political party in the country. Furthermore they don't talk about abolishing racism by favouring one racial group over others but rather they talk about improving the lot of ALL South Africans, novel idea hey.

So in summary the DA haven't really accomplished anything (sarcasm)

More seriously, this story of not voting as no party fulfils ones requirements exactly... that is a bit self-defeating. The way I like to put it to people that have that argument is like this: Think of the country as the company that looks after your retirement funds. So everything you have for after you retire is under the management of that company. Now imagine that the person managing your funds has no boss, no regulator, no rules to make sure they are looking after your interests. There is nothing stopping that person from taking everything you have for retirement, leaving you destitute with no recourse. Now you have the power to either appoint a boss/regular/lawmaker to oversee the person managing your retirement (the DA or COPE say) but instead you are choosing to leave this person to their own devices. Now scale that up so that not only your retirement but all of your country-men's retirements are in your hands and you choose to do nothing thus potentially squandering not just your future but all of those around you's futures. That's some serious responsibility and personally I'd prefer to have that oversight/boss than not have it so even if you don't know who to vote for or don't feel the DA or COPE represent you exactly why not vote for them anyways as it can only benefit everyone by at least providing some oversight for the ANC so they don't squander our future without at least a small fight.

What about doing both? And providing massively interest reduced loans to allow people to afford a place of their own? It can all be done with the right people in charge; and hopefully the WC will be a proving ground for the DA.

Yet when you complain about how the DA is running Cape Town, they don't reply. Maybe the ANC should take a leaf out Mdme Zille's book.

good point
excellently put
+1:)

Cape Town aside. Why should a person from rural Limpopo (no access to any media) vote DA since they haven't set a foot there? The people in those areas don't know what's going on in CPT - so DA doesn't exist to them.
