Why is Flickr soooooo slow?

It's not - it's Flickr. My ISP and Telkom have already tested everything. I've tried on different devices and 2 ISPs. And I've gone to my neighbour too.

Flickr is a slow site, enough to have made me move to 500px. I dunno what they're doing in the background but it's useless.

It's true, Flickr has become very laggy recently. Sometimes the pictures never load and clicking on the blank tiles does nothing.

Google Drive for originals
Flickr + 500px for showing off

...unless you make your living off of this in which case you probably have three back hard drives to start with.

I'm just a hobbyist/enthusiast
How do you upload 2000+ pics at 0.8Mbps? :p
What kind of internet connection?

I know on my 10Mbps adsl line uploading at 0.8Mbps would be maxing it out (to the point that I wouldn't be able to browse) which is pretty much why cloud backups are a no-go. 2000 pictures is a slow Saturday for me.

Of course if I had fibre... :o

Ever noticed what a bitch it is to get your photos off Flickr (as in to back them up since Verizon cannot be trusted and Flickr might DIE!). Had to resort to multicloud to transfer the "originals" album to Google Drive. Flickr zip downloads keep on failing :(

Well, while we're on the subject: the Verizon takeover. Who here reckons Flickr is dead within a year?

Flickr fills a weird gap between Instagram and 500px, don't think there's a real direct competitor that offers groups etc. I just could never be arsed with it to be honest, but I do love to be able to easily search the groups for photos taken with a certain camera/lens. I've never used 500px but I have read some comments suggesting it's not as user friendly as Flickr, which is a big thing I assume for a lot of people.

I registered on 500px not too long ago (7 months maybe?) and so far it feels way more slick and polished than the dinosaur that is Flickr. I use both but if I could only pick one 500px would probably be it.
