When I had a Telkom ADSL account my monthly usage never exceeded 40GB per month. Since I have migrated to Afrihost my monthly usage has more than doubled even though my browsing pattern has remained unchanged.

Is Afrihost playing its subscribers ?

Install a third party app to track your usage and compare that to the usage calculated by your router and what AH said you used.

You might have updates/cloud uploads running in the background.

It's really difficult to answer a query like this, it's impossible to use a general sense of browsing patterns, there could be app updates, OS updates that could be running that you're not aware of. While we generally see usage decrease over December when businesses close, home users could see an increase with more people on WiFi (like school kids being at home) - I certainly saw a lot more usage over the December period.

I think the advice below of installing a usage app is a good one, though it must track usage on all devices (if possible). Some routers can also do this, which is much better, because that will show if any devices using bandwidth via WiFi.

I'm also happy to check out your usage logs (available in ClientZone) with you to look for anything out of the ordinary. Our usage reports are audited and verified so I am confident that they are accurate.

I found the problem. There have been some major software updates on our three home computers. Thanks for the pointers.
