Why is VODACOM being so stupid?

Regarding account and billing related queries? Or like 911 type of emergencies?

Anyways, wouldnt know if it worked, i subscribe to MTN(Always have).
LOL, I suppose there are some people that might believe that Billing issues are emergencies, but 147 is for life-threatening emergencies, i.e. Vodacom's equivalent of 112.

So it wouldnt be possible to call 147 then request to be put through to accounts? :D Now that would be funny! I bet there were people who probably tried that...

Not any more - at least not on all the SA networks

112 (if you do not have a SIM in your phone) is not network dependent. Your phone will automatically select the strongest signal, irrespective of whose network it eminates from. After all, without a SIM card, your phone is not tied to any specific network, right?

Providing a 112 emergency service is part of the service provider's licence conditions.

(I used to manage the 112 emergency service for one of the networks, by the way ... :))

Same thing happened to me today. All our lines suspended, incorrectly. Could not make calls/send smss or dial out at all. And this is not the 1st time it has happened.

Already complained on Hellopeter.

Shocking service all round it seems :(

Thanks, got you PM, but I'm a bit confused.

You indicated (in the PM) that the accounts were in fact in arrears? So I'm not sure where the "incorrectly cut-off" bit comes in?

I'll see if I can find any communication (or lack thereof) to you from Vodacom.

That is correct. The thing that bothered us is the fact that way pay our bills every month on time, and this time, without receiving a bill we were R173 off because one account we had cancelled so we took that into account when paying the bill.

Instead of contacting us either on the landline (someone is almost always home), one one of the lines (my phone is never off) or by email (which both me and my mother check many times every day) they just cut all the lines off. That is what was unacceptable. And it is not the 1st time they have made a mistake with billing and we have paid the price...Let me try to dig up the other thread detailing this...

Fair enough and I'll see how I can help, but you indicated above (and I assume on HP) that you were disconnected incorrectly when it was not really the case.

I'm not sure what the policy around this is (notification before suspending a service), but I'll ask.

Ok. I see what you are saying. I should have thought of a better title like "disconnected without any warning" or some such.

My Hellopeter has been replied to, and they are looking into it apparently...

Saw that. I also escalated and did some mails flying around. Will keep you posted (if you'll pardon the pun ;))

Looks like the normal procedure is not to warn about suspension. They're busy re-looking at that process.

Cool beans. Thanks for the feedback. Wish there were more people like you at VC.
