Why is Vodacom Blackberry Internet so slow?

Hi

I will be meeting with the Blackberry team at 16h00 to get an update on the progress made with the upgrade of the Blackberry Link. I will update the Forum as soon as I get out of the meeting.

Relieved to hear it's not only me - was appalled today as a 300KB attachment took 30 minutes to download!

My wifi is blazing fast, it's def a Vodacom problem and not a BB problem....

Hi

I have received confirmation from the Vodacom team responsible for Blackberry that the new upgraded link has been successfully commissioned and that testing on the link has started. We do not have a confirmed date when testing will be completed. I will keep you updated as I receive more information.

Thanks for the feedback - how will we be updated? Will we need to keep checking this thread?

@VD

Thanks for all the updates and info fron your side. Hopefully this upgraded link will make having an hsdpa blackberry actually worth while.

I will keep you updated on this thread. When the link goes live, I will post a new thread, so that we can then see if the upgrade has a positive impact.

Thanks VD! Good to know this problem was attended to so quickly.

Thanks for the updates, good to know an upgrade is in the works but what is the actual cause of the problem?

@SFW007

I have repeatedly thanked VD for his help in this matter.

The reason i posted on hello peter is for all the people who do not read this thread.

It's good to hear that something is being done, because effectively the BB internet service has come to a standstill (1.78 Kbits/s download).

This illustrates the difference between peak and off-peak for me, both are painfully slow! Doing any sort of downloading of apps or anything larger than 300KB during business hours either takes a lifetime or times out half way.

Here are the Speedtest results for my Blackberry:

Connection Type: Carrier
Avg. Download Speed: 3.44Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 3.44Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 24.15Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 57.73Kbits/s

This is particularly bad for those of us who rely on our blackberries to receive large emails (containing brand manuals or corporate specs) during business hours.

I reckon if it weren't for the 'free' browsing, the blackberry would not be half as popular. They better pull finger.

Well the weekend is over and its back to painfully slow data on BIS.
Needed to use satnav today and the app took over 10 minutes to download the route.
This service has really gone down the tubes :-(

Saturday morning at about 06h30am I did a speedtest and got an ave download speed of 550kbs+ and a max speed of around 850kbs.

At about 09h00am it was back down to 10kbs, which is roughly 3 times faster than my reading now.
