Why is Vodacom Blackberry Internet so slow?

latest speed test...

Connection Type: Carrier
Avg. Download Speed: 33.62Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 58.95Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 35.76Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 44.56Kbits/s

Wish I could report the same speeds, but alas its not the case. Was in Roodepoort on the weekend and it was crawling. At the office now and its standing still.

Ok… liek seriously… what the hells up with Vodacom’s BIS? It’s is absolutely 100% not worth it. It’s is absolutely 100% not usable. What’s the point of subscribing when you have to wait half an hour to download 100kb data. It’s impossible to surf on. The lag and “dead time” is horrendous.

People compare it to dial-up? BS, dial-up was a 100 times better than this rubbish. At least dial-up showed signs of responding if you requested a web page.

I’ve had my Storm for 2 months now and I’ve not yet been able to successfully download apps like gmail, google maps etc through crackberry.com. In fact, I’ve not yet successfully downloaded any BB app. It either just refuses to respond half way through or it times out with some sort of error.

GPS maps takes forever to load. It takes so long that you just give up after trying for half an hour. Search for locations? BAWAHAHAHAHA you’re better off just driving to the neatest CNA and buy an old school map studio book

Wtf Vodacom. I’ve had more success surfing on a 4 year old nokia n70 than I’ve had with BIS so far.

Now I understand fully what the catch was when the sales person told me: “Sir for R60 you get unlimited data.” BS… for R60 you get ****’ol data.

And FFS please stop telling me to pull the battery and reset the device. That’s not the ****ing problem!!!! The devices are not the problem!!!! You clearly bit of more than you could chew the day you launched BB services in the RSA.

I thought MCA was bad with their HD-PVR. They are knights in shinning armour in my eyes when compared to this nonsense.

Please FFS get it right before you start selling junk watered down services.

I fully appreciate VD’s responses here and thanks for that. But it still hasn’t changed the fact that I have spend thousands on upgrading costs and doubled my contract subs just a have a phone with a big screen that’s only function is to receive and place calls.

You must download very late in the evenings, early mornings or weekends. On average it takes me a week to setup a berry with all the software and downloads - do a program a day

got a curve 8900 and it is 20 times slower than my wife's sony-erricson. always been that way. thought that if i used another browser, i'd get billed for internet usage??

Guys, has this situation improved at all? the past month has been horendous. Speeds now are ridiculous, can't download 100k without getting timed out. Is Vodacom doing anything about this?

Thanks for the PM.

Just wish there was some notification from Vodacom that this was happening.

Any update on how the teting is going VD?
Are they still hoping for end of July?

Hi grapjas

i have received a confirmation email that we are on track for the upgrade.

VodacomData

Sorry I only PM'ed cause i noticed it was requested earlier in this thread.

Hi mjkelly

I asked for the Pm to make sure his backend provisioning is correct.

Regards
VodacomData

Well somethings happening to his backend, and I believe it is Vodacom making a daily provisioning for a good rear ending, just like it's doing to the rest of us!

Seriously though, jokes aside, my latest speedtest results:

Here are the Speedtest results for my Blackberry:

Connection Type: Carrier
Avg. Download Speed: 1.48Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 1.48Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 10.69Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 23.95Kbits/s

This reminds me of that outsurance tv advert where the unsuspecting customer signs with an unscrupulous insurance company, and the executives sit there laughing at you! Unlimited browsing and navigation (executives whisper in the background: When you can get it to work on our overloaded network HA HA HA HA HA HA!)

It's also very annoying that the problem has not actually been acknowledged.
VC has not come out and actually acknowledged this problem, instead we are told "there is an upgrade due" - this really sidesteps any form of acknowledgement.

The people at 155 are still clueless, so it seems that officially VC are not taking any responsibility for this, not directly acknowledging, nor updating their support staff.

Meanwhile we go on paying for a service that is not working but not offically acknowledged.

Are VC going to take any steps to redress the situation? How can they justify charging customers month after month for a terrible service like this? I appreciate VD's presence here but he really doesn't answer any questions, just tells us that the mythical "upgrade is taking place"

So to sum up - no service, no acknowledgement, no more business from me!

I've emailed 702 and itweb this afternoon to see if they can get some more clarity.

A growing sense of discontent - Vodacom: we're not going to stand for this problem merely existing - we need some form of significant compensation for the time, energy and efficiency we've wasted over the last month on a phone and service that just don't do what they're supposed to do... Just so you know: "sorry about that, the link is up now" is not going to suffice at the end of this ordeal...
