Why programming language C is increasing in popularity

According to the TIOBE Index for May 2020, C is now the most popular programming language in the world after overtaking Java.

According to the index, C also showed the highest year-on-year growth of any language in the top 20 rankings.

The last time C reached number one was in 2015, said TIOBE, adding that the rise of C to the top may be due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Maybe I should learn C. Considering all the free time...

You've got me wrong. Go is great for certain things, Java is great at killing your soul in all things and you should bow down to your Python overlords.

Currently I'm on a C# project .... nearly as soul destroying as Java.
I'd say C# is more soul destroying than Java. Python is very good, no doubt. JavaScript still sucks.

Maybe it is because languages like Jave have seen reduced usage during the current crisis. People are vary wary of anything that looks like a virus.

I would cough at that.

No surprise. C has always been the superior language ito usability, standing the test of time.

Yeah but where are the damn C/C++ programming jobs in ZA? .NET this, JAVA that, JS blah blah

Yes, yes I know it's TIOBE. I'm just ranting.

C was the 1st language I learnt after those blunder years of Turbo Pascal in high school. After that it was C++ and a smidge of Java. Finally ended with Assembler and some other micro controller language.

That was over 15yrs go...today I wouldn't be able to program 'Hello World' in any language.

Been playing around with C/C++ since I started playing around with malware and it has become my second favourite language after python.

Damn it, I need to up my game and surpass Hamster, I like Go. :p

Both C# and Java have improved tremendously over the last few years, the massive improvements in switch statements, better streams and async implementations, etc.
