Why should I vote ANC?

This thread started out about an article that an ANC voter wrote about why he can't seem to find a reason to vote ANC.

So with that said, i'm interested to pose a question to Justask and no i'm not trying to be insulting, i am generally interested in what you have to say. Why should the man that wrote the article or even Joe Soap vote ANC?
That's a decision you have to make yourself.I'm not here to convince anybody and i'm no party's representative. You see,the news posted here, get cherry picked, the general view here is anti-Anc and one sided,so perhaps,if you really interested you should find you a platform that is more balanced.

This discussion was ok untill the extremists landed here. You said something of which i disagreed and i challenged that, not you age or affiliation or any other label sht.

I was all for ANC coming into power in 1994 with Mandela at the helm. I truely admire and love the man for everything he stood for, fought for, sacrificed and suffered. I would have gladly voted ANC back in 1994. I wasn't old enough to vote yet.

Today's ANC is a shadow of its former self in my honest opinion. I cannot see the same bright future now that seemed to lay ahead for all South Africans in 1994. What has happened? What has gone wrong? Who is to blame? Surely the onlly people we can blame is the people who are in government. Now with that said let's look at Zuma? Is he a good leader? Is he worthy of being president of this country? Can he make a change?

If the answers to the above questions are all yes and we have some sort of evidence to back this up i will gladly vote ANC. My personal opinion Zuma makes me nervous. Not because he is black, but because i'm worried he is consumed by the object of power and nothing else. And that is what worries me about voting for ANC.
Nobody disputes that there are problems, but i absolutely despise the notion that its all bad.You know, people that cherry picked news, have an agenda.

If you hate bee, first ask yourself "Why is it there in the 1st place"
If you are born after '94,it means nothing. You were born into a comfortable environment thanks to apartheid. You still have it wayyy better than the black kid that is born with you.You think everything is all about '94,no its not. That was just the ending of an official illegal policy.

Now if we want to play the blame game.
You can blame the Anc for 14 years...
I can blame the apartheidsgoverment for more than 40 years...

About Zuma:Zuma is not the Anc and he can be recalled if he fck up...if he fck up.

There isn't. I support the ANC in principle on many points. I just have no confidence in the ANC's ability - or desire - to follow through on anything it says.

The constant attacks on both internal dissent and external criticism reveal a party that is running scared and unable to defend its own actions.

Their habit of telling people that their grievances are unfounded without even bothering to investigate them irritates me a lot. (The ANC slogan isn't "Together we can do more", it's: "There is no crisis!")

They no longer have even the slightest interest in reconciliation. You're either with them or against them. And if you're against them, then you're a cockroach or a racist or a combination of the two.

They think they're always right. They are incapable of even entertaining the notion that they may be wrong. They refuse to even discuss the matter.

Everything happens under a veil of secrecy. Every time someone publicly blows a whistle on the ANC, the ANC complains that that person shouldn't have gone to the media first -- as if letting people know what is happening to their tax money is some kind of thoughtcrime. And if someone does raise an issue with the ANC, they get into all sorts of trouble (remember the deputy health minister?) or they get flatly ignored. And if they cave in and go to the media, the ANC dismisses them as having a personal agenda - demonstrated, of course, by making the information public.

There's more of course, but to be honest, I tend to skim criticisms of the DA and I'm pretty sure you just skim criticism of the ANC too.

Anyway. There's nothing wrong with supporting the ANC and the things it stands for. But the people in the ANC place their own interests above those of everyone else, and that is not a good thing for government.

Support the ANC by all means.

Just don't vote for them until they've sorted themselves out.

While i don't agree with everything, there is some truth in what you said.I don't defend the Anc,i challenge the one sided view, which is most of the time not justified.I despise people that loves to generalise but when someone posted a news story about a racist white restaurant owner, they quickly reply"There has to be more to the story".

Anyways,i vote Cope as already stated in the poll thread. But in all honesty...if i had to choose between da and anc my choice was an obvious anc.

Do we need to hand (or cherry pick) news articles when Julius Malema's unfortunate blunders headline most newspapers every evening? However, you have failed to provide any evidence of why anyone should vote for the ANC, which is the purpose of this thread.

I can understand why AA is there, but BEE just seems to me to be an African Male Club (think Black Broederbond).

Unfortunately these policies merely fuel animosity as they are abused because of the open nature of the legislation. Terror Lekota has claimed the system needs an overhaul, and I would agree.

Finally, you would imagine of 40 years of seeing what the NP government is doing, the population of this country won't wait another 25 years for the ANC to [theoretically] destroy this country because "fairs fair".

I would happily vote for a black candidate if he stood up and said affirmative action and employment equity are wrong, I have met such people, unfortunately they were not politicians just young educated black folk trying to get a start in life.

If someone stood up and said that in order to join the modern world, we need to move away from a tribal attitude and adopt a proper democratic way to run the country, I would vote for them.

ANC this, ANC that, in the end ANC does not have our backs, just their own. Im waiting for the younger, educated, westernized politicians to start questioning the old lions that run our feeble country, I just hope it wont be too long before they start making waves and we get some real change.

Okay, fair enough.

May I ask why?

Me from another thread
Agreed, the others do that occasionally too(criticise the anc -insert now). When it fits the moment, they do it too and rightly so.

The DA on the other hand is obsessed with the ANC.If Zille opens her mouth,it's the Anc do that, the anc do this.

Just today i got a sms..."THE ANC HAS SPLIT,NOW THE DA CAN WIN"...I mean wtf.So the Da can win because of the "anc's split",not because they are the better party, not because the majority of voters vote for them.

and
Then if this is true, how about focusing on that good service record. How about addressing the issues. How about selling your policies.

You lot try to sell the DA by constantly critising the ANC.By telling me how bad the Anc is,does not tell me how good the Da is.

That just about sums it up.

Yes, but no one has been adequately been able to tell us why you would vote for the ANC besides the fact that "that's what we've always done."

I am well aware of the DA's policies, yet am unaware of the ANC policies - I just assume they'll do the same thing they're doing *shrug*

Point taken,but that's your opinion.

I can never agree with anybody who thinks ee and aa are wrong. How exactly do you correct the wrongs of the past.By saying:You rich white guy and you poor black guy...from now on everything is equal to all,and automatically everything is fine. You poor black guy,i know the rich white guy has got a 40 year head start but you just have to run extra harder.

You even things out by providing a decent education system, not by handing jobs to people of a certain colour.

Anyway, can someone please list some positives that came out of the ANC since '94?

Agreed, AA and BEE are just patching the holes. You have to have a firm basis to build these policies from. Equal education will eventually led to equal opportunity on the basis of the best candidate for the job; and will reflect in the employment statistics as being racially inclusive.

The current status quo is actually harming certain industries with fewer and fewer PDIs choosing those professional careers with rigorous entrance criteria (such as law and accounting); they tend to favour the "softer" option of middle management and promotion through abuse of AA.

We should not live in the past. We should look at the future and as a single nation move forward. That is impossible in the current SA political climate. This Apartheid vendeta and penalties applied to certain members of society is just wrong and will never benefit this country at all. Innocent people are suffering. The ANC may just as well expell all the people they want to drive into poverty because of their hate! Then we'd see how quick this country become another ZimBOBwe!

Zuma will be the South Africa King soon (Dingaan type/style) do you think for one moment he will let that power go in the future? Hmmmm. I doubt.

Why should you vote ANC? Because you sincerely want another ZimBOBwe style African state.

The alternative is the spread the votes so this beloved country can become a true democracy not a ANC version of suppresive (Communist style) rule with laws based on hatred and issues of the past.

Well I can think of only one, the fact that we are still here, we survived up to now so there is still hope!

Okay, so in a toss-up between the ANC and the DA, you will vote ANC because all the DA does is criticise the ANC. Criticising the ruling party is exactly what opposition parties are supposed to do.

So basically you won't vote DA because they're doing their job very well.

That explains why you prefer the ANC (who can barely do their job at all). But I'd still like to hear more.

Why ANC? Why vote ANC?

When I was growing up, my parents criticised the NP government, they went blue with rage every time they saw a racist CP (Conservative Party) candidate spouting bulldust on tv, and they voted PFP and helped campaign for them. PFP became the DP, which became the DA, and I will admit that part of the reason I will vote DA is because they are my political home and I'm proud of what they achieved.

I'm guessing that, similarly, most people will vote ANC merely because the ANC is their political home.

But while you might be able to vote ANC on the legacy of what they achieved back in the day, you can't reward them for what they have been doing over the past 12 years. (I will admit that they started off without too much hassle ... although all those golden handshakes for people who knew what they were doing but unfortunately happened to be white was just thick.)

My political home always fought against the ruling party's faults, both before and after apartheid. I support them for that, but more importantly, I support them because they have proved themselves to be more capable and more efficient than any other political party in the country. (The current mess in Home Affairs, for example, is largely thanks to the IFP...)

I know you're voting COPE but I'd still like to know why you'd place the ANC above the DA.

All I want is for one concrete reason to vote for the ANC in its current guise. Blind faith doesn't cut it. Politics isn't religion.

Why vote ANC?

I agree..lets just free all criminals from jail and tell them we forgive them all.We will not live in the past and move forward with them.

Thats what we are doing with Zuma!

So what are you saying with this comment/analogy? that all whites and their offspring are criminals and you do not want to move forward with them? God save this country if you and your type take over total rule.

Yup, lets start with Boesak and Shaik... oh wait  (See, anyone can do sarcasm).

That is a good point. I would take offence to his analogy.

If you want to vote da because you love seeing them criticising all the time, then go for it.Look i won't vote da and if cope don't perform,i'll vote for the id,acdp, the frikken tinman or the anc.I just don't see this hellhole that's been painted

Criticism is one of the cornerstones of multi-party democracies. You know this.

It seems you have no reason to vote ANC, just plenty of reasons not to vote for other parties.

So why are you voting for COPE?

No, wait. I don't want to get sidetracked here. You still haven't answered the question.

What reasons are there for voting ANC?

If the shoe fits...the general feeling here is all black people in decent jobs are bee,all bee are useless.I can go on and on,so what's your problem now.

Me and my type just happen to be not white.
