First of all, I hate all politicians. I believe the are all almost the same to me.
With all the electioneering going on, I thought of creating a thread.

I believe all political parties's supporters are ambassadors to their respective parties they are affiliated with.
So I want DA supporters to convince me why I should vote for the DA

I know almost every DA supporter thinks that if you are an ANC supporter you are a fool, have an IQ of a shoe size, bla bla ...

I would like to talk about my own situation (probably represents thousands of people). I come from a small village in Limpopo where I know almost every one. We had water and electricity in 96/98. Before then, we used to fetch water from the rivers using wheelbarrows and all. Used wood to make fire to cook with. Now we hardly do that because we have those basic needs. Slept in a mud house my whole childhood. My local primary and high schools have computer labs and all that. we didn't have that before. My parents are happy with my achievements so far because they never thought their children could go to school and become something

We now have doctors, CAs, engineers, IT people, ..... where before we only had nurses, teachers, security guards (not that there is any thing wrong doing that). The people can now realize their dreams, like building their parents nice houses, buy nice cars and take their kids and sibling to better schools.
There are lots of villages that are experiencing the same thing. I tell you in the next 20 years or so, some of the villages will not be recognizable because of the developments that are going on.

I'm aware of the current situation with crime, health, education, corruption, etc....
I know that the infrastructure in some areas (that some people used to enjoy) might have gone to the dogs, but say that to someone who didn't have any of that infrastructure before.

I will edit my post as I think of something, but I hope it came out clear.

As a DA supporter I will firstly say that not all ANC members are bad people. For over a decade the best run municipality in this country was run by the ANC.

Yes, things have gotten better for the majority as the old government excluded all but a minority. No denying that the ANC has achieved a lot of good things that the media will never ever publish.

And ironic its only when these wonderful, but frustrated ANC members join opposition parties do we get to hear about what they did.

The reason why the DA is better than the ANC is because its a minority party, it needs to work much harder and better. Its more transparent, more inclusive and more accountable to its actions.

I dont care who you vote for, as long as its not the majority party...

^ This is why i have such a bad attitude with votes and voting. if you have a solution, offer it, don't say "do anything BUT what you're doing now"

I stand by the view point that the longer a political party remains in power - the more that party becomes lazy, corrupt etc etc. The only way to combat this is with threat of them losing and being thrown out.

DA is currently the closest thing to opposition to the ANC, and this is why I vote DA.

And with that said, I will also change my vote from DA to a 3rd party (or even the ANC after a bit) if the DA do ever win 2 consecutive elections.

Even as a white guy I have to acknowledge that the ANC is probably the only party that could govern this country for the next 10 years at least as all the other parties simply don't represent the majority of the country. At the same time when the ANC had a 66% majority and no fear of ever loosing power it lead to massive abuse of power and a lot less development than was possible. Its the age old story of a little power corrupts a little, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I think an ANC with a 51% majority would be a much better party than an ANC with a 70% majority as they would fear loosing power enough to truly tackle corruption and service delivery. This is why you and your friends should vote for any party other than the ANC. Its to check their power and their abuse of their position. Countries without a single large party always do better as new laws or economic innitiatives have to be good enough that a majority of political parties approve of. Single party majorities tend to be lazy, corrupt, and tend to destroy press freedom and rule of law to enable them to silence critics and continue their fleecing of the public coffers.

Anyways, thanks for posting your story about the changes to your village. A lot of DA supporters in the country try to ignore the massive strides forward the ANC has made in delivery of basics like water, electricity, and the elimination of the bucket system. Still, the ANC is at heart run by Communists and Trade union bosses who are both anti business and this is why despite all other advancements our employment rate is dropping. The DA is a party that can fix the economy and drive massive employment via being business friendly. That in turn will fix all kinds of other issues like crime, etc.

Thats where I stand, I don't agree with a lot the DA stands for, but I'll vote for them until they're in power, in the hopes that they do better than the current bunch.

Just look at all the money wasted by the ANC government...money that could have gone to helping others like you with a similar past. Money that could have gone into creating more infrastructure and jobs without having to put a even bigger burden on a already buckling middle class.

It is not just about how your life has improved. There is a bigger picture.

Do I think that my own life will improve drastically by means of wealth and fortune should the DA come into power? No...I dont...but I do think that our country will be run like it deserves to and therefore each and everyone will start reaping the benefits...not just a select few.

If such fantastic transformation was delivered to you life and village, why don't you vote for the party responsible?

Always voted ANC in the past but I want them to stay on their toes, don't want the DA to take control I just want the gap to close.
An ANC with 51% of the votes will build and uplift, an ANC with 2 thirds majority will be lazy and corrupt. It has nothing to do with the ANC or DA its just politics look at Zanu PF. A DA with 2 thirds majority will most certainly also be a sh!!t situation. :D

I think the short of it is that people really don't mind who you vote for as long as your reasons for voting for them are sound.

I'd also suggest that voting for someone because of what they did yesterday isn't good enough. It's what happens tomorrow that matters.

Well, if you understand financial reports and read the news once in a while you might see that the ANC mismanages state funds better than a Zimbabwean minister could ever dream of. And the worst thing of all? The bad apples are identified yet the retain a position of authority.

The fact is that the poor of this country could have already been a more significant way on the road to "being on equal footing" with the previously advantaged people.

What i can not understand is that people with so little are still supporting the people that are keeping them poor and unsafe. The ANC is rife with members plundering the coffers of SA and breaking the back of the working class.

But hay what do I care. I can afford to pay for private school education for my kids, I can afford private health care, I can hire security to sleep safely at night, I am not the one that the ANC should be apologizing to, but they will not apologize as long as those same people keep voting the fat cats into power.

How much of that has to do with the ANC and how much to do with the end of apartheid, or more specifically, the fact the NP neglected those things? How do you know you would not have got those things under a DA government which also regarded all people as equal and did not ignore the development of one sector of the population.

Even if it was all the ANCs doing, you appear to be making the one major mistake I feel all ANC supporters seem to be making and that is voting out of a sense of owing them. Voting based on nostalgia. The ANC of today is vastly different from the ANC of 1996.

However, ignoring all of this, the reason I reckon anyone who is uncertain should be voting for the DA is because a strong democracy requires a strong opposition. Let the ANC still win if they must but ensure that they are held accountable by an opposition whose numbers allow them to do so.

Why do you want to be convinced to vote for the DA? What is now different about the party you previously voted for that caused you to seek to be convinced.
