Why the new DStv Explora has a smaller hard drive

I call BS. The current model retails for the same price.
Its just pure and normal greed. Charge same price for inferior product. Simple as that. End of story.

I quite like the newer remote on this , anybody know if its backwards compatible to the previous Explora ?
 
If they went from a 3.5" hdd to a 2.5" in order to slim down the design then it does make a little bit of sense. However if they stick to the same physical size drive but halve the capacity then I call it greed.

Please explain, they are selling the decoder below cost. The cost of 2TB drive is 2/3 of the selling price. So do some simple maths and explain greed
 
My current Explora is constantly at 65-70% full, so with the new one it would be full all the time. Great thinking.

If they bought, like, 10 hard drives, sure...but buying a whole bunch (tens of thousands?) would've surely allowed them to negotiate a fairly decent discount, I reckon.
 
Leave the hard drive out all together, only have a usb port, halve the size of the decoder again, have a second output port like the sd pvr then drop the price to R999 and you will not keep up with the demand :)

New one uses H.265 vs the old ones H.264 (I assume). When downloading content, the H.265 files seem about half the size of H.264 content. So you will still be using the same %...
