McCain on the other hand is an outlet for all the 'conservative' white folk who are set in their ways. Those ways being xenophobia if not outright old fashioned racism. A lot of his supporters, support him more out of hate for Obama than agreement with his views.

If you've seen some of McCain's latest town hall rallies, the nut jobs amongst his supporters have finally surfaced, as they shouted and aired a number of their highly offensive opinions about Obama. They even booed McCain when he denounced (as he has done numerous times during his campaign) the crazier views his campaign and supporters have seen fit to spread so eagerly. This raises the question I put forth earlier about whether they are supporting him or whether they merely hate Obama.

Of course, I do not believe that all of McCain's supporters are nut job american racists, nor that Obama is only supported due to Bush's low approval ratings. Still, it is interesting to view the different campaign strategies which they have employed, as both are aimed at specific groups within the USA. Obama has been all about change and tying McCain to Bush, while McCain's has been all about attacking(if not smearing) Obama's character.

Didnt read the whole thread, and i hate to say this but... I think you're right :o

Although watching the presidential debates I thought both candidates were focussed too much on discrediting the other vs debating the issues/policies [agreed McCain more so than Obama]

The whole elitist issue is just populist rhetoric. Who cares how many houses or cars he has? As long as he hasn't acquired them illegally, which nobody claims, he has every right to them.

You mention Biden as a good "solid" pick. What brings you to that conclusion? Perhaps it's Biden's view that Obama is too inexperienced to become pres? His support for the Iraq war? He attempts to lose the war by voting against the surge? His delusion that France helped the U.S kick Hizbollah out of Lebanon? Perhaps lying over a dozen time in the VP debate?

As for thinking what was Obama thinking when he claimed people "clung to guns and religion in bitterness" or that there were more than 57 U.S states? Claiming to see dead soldiers in front of him, claiming 10 000 people were killed by a Kansas tornado when in fact only 12 died :o

As for inspiring who does he inspire. Left wing liberals. Robert Mugabe used to inspire them too. Hitler inspired millions of Germans. Then again if he's so inspirational why is the race still open?

Which brings us to Mr. Obama, who got his start as a Chicago "community organizer" at Acorn's side. In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included Acorn. This past November, he lauded Acorn's leaders for being "smack dab in the middle" of that effort. Mr. Obama also served as a lawyer for Acorn in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.

During his tenure on the board of Chicago's Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for "staging, sound, lighting." It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.

The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.

The Justice Department needs to treat these fraud reports as something larger than a few local violators. The question is whether Acorn is systematically subverting U.S. election law -- on the taxpayer's dime.

I just re-read my post and apparently, I'm a prick.:D

Let me rephrase my response now that I have been enlightened.

If Obama loses the election it will not be because of the very, very few racists who still exist in the U.S. The vast majority of those fall into the white conservative demographic which typically vote Republican regardless of the opposing candidate.

If Obama loses it will be because he is a Marxist.
