Why you should consider a pre-built gaming PC

A 2-year warranty is also included in the price of the pre-built PC.

A 2-year warranty covering what?

All of those components come with a manufacture's warranty, and as South Africans, we have an instituted implied 6-months of warranty.

For example, the ASUS TUF motherboard comes with a standard 3-year warranty, and I can assure you that every distributor in South Africa will honour that warranty. If this warranty is limited to 2-years by the seller then I will question the quality of the pre-built.

I do like the thought of not having to diagnose any issues.

On my current setup, I had a memory and PSU issue at the same time, and it took weeks trying to figure it out since I did not have the components to swop out for testing. I finally broke down and asked Wootware to help since "most" of the system was bought through them. They had the parts to figure out the in a couple days.

It isn’t the same argument, your system wasn’t a pre-built, you simply booked it into Wootware’s workshop where they followed their own testing methodology and provided you with options in remedying your issue.

This is vastly different from combining different components into a single product, market it and sell it.

There are pre-built manufacturer PCs, ignoring OEM which is for this exact purpose, but Corsair, MSI, etc. all their pre-built systems are subject to their manufacturer terms. Just to have a quick look at the warranty of Corsair Systems, because they sell it as a single ‘manufactures’ system,

Overview

Corsair systems (e.g. Corsair One and Vengeance PC) come with a 2-year hardware warranty for the original purchaser, starting from the day of purchase from an authorized Corsair reseller.

Corsair offers a 90-day warranty for certified refurbished Corsair systems.

Corsair offers two choices for warranty service: advance replacements and standard replacements for its systems.

Depending on the model and age of your system, Corsair may choose whether the system will be repaired, or replaced with an equivalent model.

The warranty period may vary by specific system. You can find the warranty period on the product package, in the user documentation, or in this bulleted list. If you see different warranty periods for a product, the longest specified warranty period will apply.

This warranty is non-transferable, except where prohibited by applicable local law.

Which isn’t remotely the same as a seller taking components from different manufactures with different warranties and apply their warranty. It just doesn't work that way.

System builders like Steiger Dynamics in the USA have contractual relations with their ‘OEM’ partners, and because they are system builders they can only honour limited warranties. Usually, they have a limited 3-year warranty, and if liquid-cooled they have a limited 1-year warranty, and they provide shipping warranty options in addition to the standard limited warranties, but at a cost. As an OEM partner, they are legally allowed to do this, because the manufacturer's warranty doesn’t apply to their channel.

Why you should consider a pre-built gaming PC

For many PC gamers, one of the most exciting aspects of getting a new rig is putting it all together.

However, another benefit that some may think would result from building your own PC is that you can save money.

What is the meaning of Birds of a feather?
: of the same kind or nature : very much alike —usually used in the phrase birds of a feather Those two guys are birds of a feather. Note: The expression birds of a feather flock together means that people who are alike tend to do things together.

99% of the time unless build by reputable system builders like dell, the power supplies installed are crap allows for zero wiggle room for any and all upgrades, and are generally the weakest part of ANY prebuild system and the biggest failure point.Quite often NO attention is given to cool overall unless people like dell get a hold of it.It is generally tested under favorable conditions once south African summer heat comes into play, throttle, throttle throttle,.......,....Even dell alienware has limitations, enough that any serious gamer will rather build a system them self.

So no, you should never ever buy a prebuild system.......custom build perhaps, but you really need to pick the parts perfectly

Only because shops cut corners, like advertising a whole pc and then not including an OS. Then when you install one it doesn't recognise the Maxtor HDD because it's on the same channel as the CD drive so you have to add another cable that should be there by default. Ok that can't happen with SATA any more but you get the point.

The components are generally OEM parts that come without manuals and software. So they'll replace a missing cooler with a cheap one of their own. Some of the components here look pretty entry level and I'm sure can be had for less.

Also it's easy to use returned stock for a pre-build.

So let us see.
With Evetech they don't honor warrantees, they will charge you 10-20% depreciation after a month of use if something under warrantee break.
These pre builds are a way for them to get rid of old stock and not components that actually work well together.
If one small component fail, like a stick of ram they will ask you to pay for shipping back for they whole pc and you will sit for months without a pc while they work out how much extra they going to screw you for pc that is under warrantee.

Well done Mybroadband, great journalism
