My main gripe with Apple.

Insanely overpriced hardware, unless the hardware parts are forged in the caves of Mount Mordor, which is highly unlikely.

If you really really want Mac OS, get yourself a Hackintosh.

If it's too expensive, don't buy one! Why spend tons of time trying to convince others to join you in boycotting Apple.

There are brand names in every area of life, from cars to clothing and watches. Everyone has areas in their life where their priorities allow for some extra expenditure. It gets so tiring listening to fanboys fight it out for no rimal reason!

So what? Have you ever run the online configuration tool at HP for their top of the line workstations e.g. something with Xeons in them?

i choose to spend my money on a mac instead of sports, its who i am, other people spend immense amounts on sports and sports equipment or cars.

So actually what you are saying is don't buy a BMW 7 series rather buy a old punched up VW beetle because it costs less?

Search the forum archives. This image was posted a while back. It turns out if you buy a Dell Precision workstation with the same specs, the Mac is cheaper.

The Macbook/MBP range is well priced, considering their battery life, build quality and specs. iMacs are well priced, considering their IPS displays. The Mac Pro's are horrendously expensive (although the hardware is great). I'd rather have a hackintosh than a Mac Pro, but I'd rather have a MacBook or iMac than a hackintosh.

As I said earlier, as far as workstation class machines go, the Mac Pro price is average, at worst. For interest sake, I did a quick check on Dell's website. A Dell Precision T7500 tower workstation, which looks roughly comparable to the entry level Mac Pro, works out at $3,649 for the Dell, over $2,724 for the Mac Pro (I had to up the RAM to match the Dell). The Dell includes a stock 20" screen, so it would be $399 less - still about $500 more than the Mac.

Oh, and Dell charges $470 for a stock standard 1TB 7200rpm 32mb SATA drive

Mac OS is in serious need of a UI refresh. That taskbar at the bottom is starting to look really old and worn out.

I am very very happy with Windows 7 & I can burn & play blu-rays on my Windows 7 pc. Dealbreaker for me, cos I have a blu-ray collection & a superb Samsung HD display. ;)

You mean the Dock? You can put it on the side. I think Windows 7 is great. I just think Mac OS is better. If you need blu-rays, Windows is a better choice.

Well Macs support Blu ray drives just fine. They just don't have built-in decoding.

How what where? Tell me!

External LG drive in a StarTech eSATA enclosure. The Mac sees the drive just fine, Toast can burn BD discs like any other. Like Synaesthesia says, all that's missing is BD decryption.

THB, I don't see the point of actually using BD for anything other than backup on different media (which is what I got it for). Doing anything with it takes ages.

in ZA Apple products are overpriced comared to other electronics. But i agree with the person who said that it depends on what you want to spend money on. To me BMW are $#!7 and i like to drive a small car. My 3 year old iMac still brings me (almost) as much joy as it did when i got it...(i need more RAM, will get some this week!!).

Apple makes appliances, other manufacturers makes machines. I like appliances more. I switch it on, i do stuff...

PS. These arguments are so addictive, yet if you participate you prove yourself an idiot :P

Ahhh the BMW Seven series. Here's one for seventy grand. One owner, 160 000 km (which is low for a V8). About the price of a new Mac Pro. I have nothing more to add to the argument, I've said all I need to say about the evils of Apple already, I just wanted to post some Fat Cat Luxury Car Porn.

That image is really more about "Why to build your own computer" than "Why not to buy a Mac"

My reasons for not liking Macs have more to do with Steve Jobs and his Walled Garden (tm) than their price.

My Macbook works perfectly, never overheats, never bombs out. It does all the things my music production PC couldnt do.
