I have just re read the above few posts and realized that because of a few I painted EVERYONE with the same brush.
Was not my intension to ..a bit of emotion involved..sorry guys. :-)

ps. all in the name of fun guys but we do not allow wisps on to our network as we have worked to hard to get this thing off the ground to let one guy drop us in the poo at icasa. :mad: :rolleyes: :cool:

Just for clarification:
  • Operating 802.11 (wifi) equipment in the ISM bands with a booster/amplifier/'anything that puts out more then 100mW' is ILLEGAL and this is something WISP's are known to do frequently.
  • Operating a commercial communications network with a VANS licence is something that is subject to considerable amounts of debate - thanks to legal grey areas and conflicting statements made by Poison Ivy over the last few hears, however,
  • VANS licenses are currently in the process of being scrapped and the new EC Act is very clear about the fact that you may not sell network services without an ECNS license. Currently only the major telco's have received ECNS licenses and only about 8 of the 100's of VANS are likely to receive ECNS licenses in a competitive application process.

Ryder - shame man, don't be so hard on the WISP guys - a lot of them are honestly just trying to make a difference to the lives of ordinary people.

It's best not to feed the trolls. The other day someone was ridiculed for not asking questions and someone said there's no such thing as a dumb question. Now for some reason only God knows what it's also not alright to ask questions.

I guess some people will be like that when defending "their" domains. Some people can't think far enough back to remember the time when they were in the same spot and also didn't know more than their arse but am now too glad to speak from it. Imo people like that usually don't get very far in life before they get what's coming to them.

I'm just glad there are still people that want to make a difference and setup something like a wisp and instead of belittling them I will rather support them. I hope he succeeds in doing it the correct way so everyone can share in it instead of only a few select wugs who think they have the only right.
