My kettle has started leaking quite badly so time for a new one. I thought I'd try a WiFi type so I can boil it using an app without leaving my bed in the morning.

There are a few on Takealot with mixed reviews, anyone using one and can recommend?

Sorted for less than R400 bucks.

Gimmick, dont bother, you will use it for a week then get bored and start boiling water the traditional way again.

Maybe when summer comes. In the meantime it's cold in the morning and boiling the kettle without getting out of bed is an ambition of mine.

Top tip: Make any dumb device with an on/off switch smart with a smart plug.

I've already got smart plugs for certain things, but most of the time it will be operated manually and I don't trust others to use the always on properties of a smart plug properly.

So now you're also plumbing your kettle into a tap.. removing the electrical cord and adding a water 'cord'...
Urn, drip feed from tap with high level & low level sensor, Automated valve, N/C with solenoid. Temperature sensor complete with a timing switch....

That's far to clever for me. I'm so stupid I'd just fill it up before I went to bed
Probably the single most important feature you should look for is dry boil protection, to avoid switching it on with no or too little water..

You say you will fill it up before bed, but shitosis happens and then you forget and end up dry boiling and popping your kettle..

That or a gown and some sheep wool slippers instead, to keep you warm out of bed..

Where do you stay that it is so cold ? Sutherland ?

I use these for those applications where a normal switch is also required.

Well there are multiple ways around this problem. The easiest would be a perculator. Slap that onto a CBI astute geyser timer and voila, You wake up to the smell to Caffiene strong enough to kill a charging Rhino at 100m.
