So here's the scenario.

On the property there is a house and flat. The house has a 4meg dsl connection and the flat none. (Objective is to get the flat internet enabled)

I went to telkom to have an extension installed, linking the house and flat together, but was told that they don't do that anymore. (Big old pile of Telkom BS?)

The house and flat is about 40-50 meters apart and modem/router's wifi coverage reaches the kitchen area of the flat moderately. (Distance from the modem/router to the edge of the house facing the flat = 20 meters. The distance from the edge of the house facing the flat to where I want to connect to = 30 meters.)

Now I was thinking that I could shorten the distance by connecting a router on the edge of the house facing the flat, to the modem/router by LAN cable and effectively shorten the distance by 20 meters or so.

Is this possible? And how would I go about doing this?

Can be done:

Adsl router --> network cable --> Wireless APN .... broadcast to flat.

20m of network cable - bit iffy without a repeater though.

20 m of cable is not a problem, lan can handle up to 100m without repeater.

And can anyone tell me something about repeaters? Like would online gaming on such a connection still possible (how dramatically would ping times increase?) and can anyone give me some recommended products?

Is there infrastructure between house and flat? How difficult would it be to plant a CAT5 from the house to the flat? While wired, it will be your strongest signal. If you can establish line-of-site between point A in the house and point B in the flat, A being the router and B being the repeater, you could also establish a fantastic little operation.
