hi all,

I have a HP notebook compact wit built in wireless. I have the network setup and working correctly (I use my new samsung and it works fantastically)

If I start the HP and the wireless is on then it takes 10 minutes to startup. When it is on and I want to send mail and add an attachment then the system "hangs" for about 5 minutes before responding and allowing me to continue. Even if I open windows explorer while the wireless is on (even when i am not connected to the network) the system hangs for 5-10 minutes.
I am running windows XP on the HP with service pack 3.

My samsung is running windows 7 and no problems at all.

What can i do to stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response.

How would i check that? Must I maybe log in to the HP website and see if there is a driver check / update support?

You got any mapped drives on there that are not avaiable / have red crosses through?
Delete them.

@Ivork - no don't have any mapped drives.
but thanks for the input

call the HP helpline and check if your model has the faulty wireless adaptor. they will recommend a motherboard replacement. i got a usb wireless adaptor for like R300 and loaded windows 7. both adaptors are working fine.

Are you sure it's the wireless? It's all fine with wireless dissabled and useing LAN RJ45 cable then?

will windows 7 sort out this problem?

I was actually thinking of upgrading from xp to win 7 cause i find it so much more friendly to use. I just worry i will lose my work cause does it not delete all your files when you upgrade?

@Ivork - yes if i have the network cable plugged in it is fine - it's only when I don't have the cable plugged in and only go wireless.

I did that last night - went to HP support and entered model etc and got the updated drivers, installed them, and the system is exactly the same still
very slow with wireless on.
My new laptop works fantastically - the HP is really getting to me.
The HP belongs to my wife and she is on my case cause it hangs when connected wirelessly.

Any other ideas of suggestions?
