Looking at the Xbox360 and PS3 when they came out they had all these nice features..... all the features that PCs had for ever, but none the less (this isn't that kind of thread) and with each update software/firmware update they get more and more PC functionality, Now consider how technology as evolved to put more things in one device (your cellphone for example) to in a way, a PC is what almost every piece of technology strives to be.
SO what do you think? In the future will your console be your PC and your PC be your console?

This is not a PC vs Console thread!

Big difference: PC hardware is constantly improving and to play the latest games you need the latest hardware; on a console the hardware is fixed for a few years, so regardless of what you buy it will work.

You can put linux on a PS3, so you can sort of use it as a PC.

the line is blurred in some aspects of usability, but as mentioned the consoles are more focused and thus provide better roi for gaming.

They will definitely take major roles for multimedia and internet but I don't seem them being used for DTP, programming, etc just yet :)

Consoles are essentially computers. They should make them with a DIMM socket so the user can upgrade the ram for desktop usage, PS3 is perfectly capable but a bit short on ram.

Consoles are dumb pc`s for people who can only handle a few buttons.

The PS3 was a PC, but that has been 'fixed'.

Also, there is a factor to consider when it comes to taxes. I think they pay more if it can be a PC as well as a console.

Hahahaha! :p

or for people who prefer long load times instead of a single installation, because clicking [next] 4 times "is a little too complex"

Imo the console will be fully functional pc in years to come but the gaming part will be restricted so that all "pc-consoles" can play a game without any hickups.

I assume your joking with that copmment ;) cause that is just stupid.

Consoles fit into the gaming market perfectly cause of the no-hassle.
Yeah you could argue it is cause people find PC too complex, but its not cause of clicking "next" 4 times, but rather cause of the games requiring certain minimal specs and sometimes more (like Steam activations) that, whomever buy a game for themself or as xmas/bday present for someone, dont want/need to care about.

Also, I personally find certain games just feel better, playing with a gamepad, laying on the couch, or enjoying with friends around. PC is still too - personal. My own gaming rig is parked right in the livingroom, hooked up to the TV and I even attached some wireless 360 gamepad dongles for those PC games with gamepad support, but not everyone does that.

To get back to the OP, .. nope, console won't (and I wil lgo as far as to say ever) take the place of a PC. It might be able to do some things, like browsing inet, heck.. maybe later even have some spreadsheets and word support (mmm.. me gtta check if google docs work :D ) .. but there are so much more that wil lstay exclusive to PC. The PS3 with linux on come really close, but the lack of lotsa memory on it makes it too slow and just a pain to use.

Ey you lot are predictable, this was not a PC vs Console thread!

But I see some people agree with me and have kept on the "rails" :D

ps3 = pc basically for a person who uses a 7900 :p with a blue ray drive.

hmmm , no i dont think consoles will ever cross the line as they have to keep it simple for that type of market . right , im going to create a 10gig game on my ps9 quickly , with all my game creating apps and tools ..... dont think it will ever happen.

ok lets do some Csharp with my wii.....

maybe MS will be stupid enough to create apps for project natal , i dont know , but i can imagine it would work as you would be using your hands mostly ? imagine photoshop on PJN ? PJN looks really successful up to a point . i love my pc ^^,
also the amount of processing power needed is dull compared to a pc , unless you get a quadcore, ATI 5 series gfx xbox....

pc + mouse and keyboard = WIN , there are no limits !!

This is not an attack againts consoles . its just , why would you use windows 7 gadgets on an xbox ??? its meant for gaming .... i still have a ps2 for awesome lol nights with my buds playing all mortal kombats.

One day in the forseeable future Nintendo will dominate the console market due to their innovativeness, creativity and prowess. Playstation And Microsoft consoles will dissolve into just being merely a pc with exclusives and online play along with the PC platform. Look at the Wii, no PC has a wiimote. Can't wait to see what the Big N comes up with next. (Let tge flaming . . . BEGIN!!:D:D)
